It was the first day of filming and everyone was running around set. Justin had called me out of my trailer after I finished getting my hair cut and shit.
"So Jerm, the publicity managers need you and Ashanti to go live on Instagram. We need to get the word out that this movie is in the works so people can get hyped for it, you know?"
"Why me and Ashanti though? It can't just be one or the other?"
"Look, it has to be both of you alright? Get them to ask why you two are together. Hell, they haven't seen you in the presence of another woman since Meloni! They're gonna be curious!" I looked at him like he was crazy.
"Or, I could just... you know... make a post saying I have a movie coming ou-"
"Jermaine." He gave me that look that let me know i was on thin ice. I let out a big sigh and turned to walk towards Ashanti's trailer. "Atta boy."
The reason I was so reluctant on going live with Ashanti is because I know how the internet is, and I know how Meloni is. Ashanti has no idea about our big breakup drama and she doesn't deserve to be dragged into it. Even though it was nearly a year ago, I knew she would eventually find out.
I knocked on the trailer door and heard "come in". I opened the door and Ashanti was sitting in a chair in front of a vanity getting her hair done.
It was big and flowy, it reminded me of SZA's signature style. It made her look so much younger, which I guess is the point considering we're playing teenagers. Hell, I had to shave all my facial hair off. But seeing her in something other than her everyday slick back was nice.
"Yo Ash."
"Yo Jermaine."
"Justin says we need to go live to get the word out about the movie."
"While I'm getting my hair done? Really?"
"I don't wanna do this shit either but it's for the publicity. We should probably do it on whoever's account has the most followers." She rolled her eyes, pulled out her phone, and showed her followers to me.
