Archwing had been walking for hundreds miles. For millions of fox-lengths. She started to believe that she was going the wrong way--but she'd come too far to turn back. All she could think about was her older sister, Kindlepaw. She suddenly realized that she, being younger by about fifteen minutes, had gotten her warrior name first! That got her to smile. Her and her sister had been arguing about that, even though they were both only nine moons. She wondered what her sister's warrior name would be. Sadness stabbed Archwing through the heart like a wound when she might never know.
Archwing padded through the apple tree woods until they weren't apple trees anymore--she was now padding through a redwood forest.
Archwing was in such deep thought that she didn't notice that the forest had abruptly stopped and the ground broke off to a gorge. She skidded to a halt at the last second, the tips of her claws hanging off the edge. She looked to her right and found a way down to the bottom. I mean, if I'm going to find my way back home to my sister, she thought, then I might as well get to know my surrounding territory. She made her way down the steep slope.
Once she reached the bottom of the gorge, she parted her jaws to smell her surroundings, but it was exactly the same. There was a small stream that ran through the bottom of the gorge. She began to explore, padding through the shallow stream to get to the other side and found a small hollow. She found a large amount of moss on the side of a huge rock that was in the middle of the stream, which was flowing around it. Archwing ripped a huge chunk of the moss off and put it inside of the hollow. She repeated this until she had a nest to sleep in.

...

The sun was setting. Archwing had been laying in her nest for a few hours now. Suddenly, a light blue glow appeared from the corner of the entrance to the small hollow Archwing was inside. Then, a transparent blue cat with stars set neatly into his fur stepped out. Archwing's eyes widened.
"Hello, Archwing," the tom began. "I'm Firestar, former leader of ThunderClan. You may have heard of me from passed-down stories from elders."
"Firestar?!" Archwing exclaimed in astonishment.
Firestar dipped his head with a smile. "Anyway, you have been chosen if StarClan."
"What?"
"It is time for everything to go into action." He told her.
"What do you mean? I have to get back to ThunderClan--to my sister. I have to get back to Kindlepaw! Will I see her again?"
Firestar remained silent for a moment before responding, "you are exactly where you need to be." He told her.
"But... I need my sister!" She exclaimed. "Will I ever see her again?!"
"StarClan cannot guarantee that," he told her solemnly. Archwing's expression darkened. "But StarClan has sent you on a mission. There have always been five clans. ThunderClan, RiverClan, WindClan, ShadowClan, and StarClan. But now... Now there must be a sixth."
"What?!" Archwing asked in shock.
"You will be the founder of FallClan, which shall reside in this very gorge."
Archwing was still in shock. Her? Of all cats, StarClan chooses her? "I don't understand--why would you pick me? There's so many other cats of all clans that would do a better job than me!"
"Because we chose you, Archwing. not Beefur, or Orangestar, or Firepelt, or Mousesight, or Kindlepaw."
Archwing flinched at the last name. "How will I form FallClan?" She asked.
"You will gather all of the rogues and Kittypets you can, and set up the order and everything. Since you are not in the forest, you may have different rules, but try to keep it the same the best you can."
"What about the moonstone?" She asked. "How will I get my nine lives, or talk to you and the rest of StarClan?" She asked.
"You will know what to do," he told her. "You'll find your own moonstone. Everything will turn out alright." Firestar said as his voice drifted, his body fading away.
"No, don't go! I still need your guidance!" Archwing yelped, but he was already gone.
