BULLETS. ONE AFTER ANOTHER. I didn't know something could bring me such fear, such vicious and unconditional dread.
I wanted to scream, but I simply couldn't. I was choking on the fear but not clinging onto the hope like I should've been—the hope that would get us out of here safe and sound.
Everything was a blur of color through my eyes.
But there were two things about which I was absolutely certain.
Nico was holding my hand tightly in his own. And even though all hell was breaking loose, I knew that as long as he was touching me, I would be fine.
Two, we were running, quickly, although I didn't know where we were going.
I want to go home.
I want to lay in our bed and fall asleep with him by my side, wrapping me in his safe, warm arms. Binding me to his hard chest and forgetting all of my worries and fears.
If only I could utter the words and speak to him.
Suddenly, I'm not holding his hand anymore.
His touch. It's gone, completely erased from my skin.
I don't know where he is, but what I do know is that I need him here with me.
A bullet sounds.
I can't see anything, and I can't hear anything. The only thing I can feel is pain. Pain so extreme that I have to grit my teeth together to hold back a scream.
