Renee sat on the bed, unimpressed, observing her best friend Avril dance around the room joyfully while clutching a pair of white tickets. It was common knowledge that fangirls could sometimes be a lot, but this was surely extreme.
"I've got them! I freaking scored them, Renee, and now I'm holding them, in my hand, they're real!"
The squealing girl jumped onto the open window sill and called out, "Hey neighbors, guess what? I've got tickets to go see Tokio Hotel live, so to all you haters out there, you can go suck a-"
"Oh my god, Avril, seriously, it's not that big of a deal," Renee rolled her eyes. She should have been used to this by now; she had been dealing with this hyperactive girl as her best friend for years.
"Not that big a deal?" Avril repeated, shocked. She stuffed the tickets in Renee's face. "Look at this, girl!"
Renee took a glance at the paper, reading the name of the tour.
"Zimmer 483, baby, and we're front row!" Avril snatched the tickets back and resumed her parade around her bedroom.
Had Renee known that she'd be dealing with this crazy fangirl monster that had overtaken her best friend, she surely wouldn't have come over to Avril's house. Now, of course, Renee loved Avril, and they had so many things in common, but for the past year, Avril had been obsessing over the famous German rock band Tokio Hotel, of which Renee knew next to nothing.
She was familiar with the band's lead singer, Bill, because Avril had once sent her a 341-word essay about everything she loved about him and how she'd do anything to marry him. She'd planned out a whole life with him and had explained (in detail) how many kids they would have and what their names would be. Renee, being the people-pleaser she was, had patiently read through the essay, but other than that, she was not well-versed in the subject of Tokio Hotel.
Tokio Hotel was currently on their worldwide Zimmer 483 tour, and Avril had lined up yesterday morning in the 'bitterkalt' (bitterly cold) German winter to get tickets for herself and Renee. To be honest, Renee didn't really want to go to the concert, but Avril had gone through so much effort to obtain these tickets that she couldn't say no.
And so the day of the concert came, and Renee had started to become a little more excited. There was going to be music, after all, which was Renee's pride and joy. In her own spare time, Renee loved to sing and play the guitar. Her parents had been trying ever since she was a little girl to get Renee to play the piano because they viewed it as a more 'classy' instrument than the guitar.
"Rock is the devil's music!" her parents would tell her. That was why Renee had never had proper guitar lessons; she had simply taught herself how to play what she wanted.
"Are you ready?" Avril came out of her bathroom and into her bedroom. On the walls were dozens of posters, most of which were of Tokio Hotel and mainly Bill Kaulitz. The CD player on Avril's bedside table was playing the band's album 'Schrei,' and Avril was wearing red heels, a black skirt, and a hoodie that said "Kaulitz" on the back.
Renee laughed and looked fondly at Avril as she sat down on the bed beside her. "Huh, so you're really obsessed with this band, aren't you?"
"Duh!" responded Avril, as if it should be obvious (it really was). "Do you think I look cute enough? Imagine if Bill calls me up on stage to sing with them; I would just take his hand and dance the night away with him." She got up and began to imitate how she would dance with him.
Laughing, Renee looked down at her own outfit. She was wearing black knee-high boots, flared jeans with sequins sewn onto the pockets, and a sparkly dark-pink top. Her thick hair was out, and she wore pink eyeshadow with some black eyeliner. In her opinion, she looked pretty cute, almost like a rock-star girlfriend. She was getting excited for the show tonight; maybe she would end up loving Tokio Hotel's music!
"Oh my god, their best song is playing!" Avril suddenly squealed and turned up the volume on her CD player, where 'Ich bin nicht ich' could be heard.
Avril grabbed Renee's hands and pulled her off the bed, swinging her around the room while singing,
"Ich bin nicht ich wenn du nicht bei mir biiiist, bin ich allein
Und das was jetzt noch von mir übrig iiiist, will ich nicht sein!"Together, the girls danced around throughout the whole song, and by the end of it, Renee was confident she knew all of the lyrics.
After tonight, she thought, perhaps Tokio Hotel will be my new favourite band!
And boy was she right.
