Chapter 2: Impressions

Robert Leighton Clifford                                                                                 Robert's Office                                                                                                             Aldbridge Police Department

She walked into my office first thing in the morning.

I was having coffee while reviewing some case files of suspects when she stepped in, her killer heels catching my attention. Who am I kidding? Her five inched red heels is not the only thing that caught my attention.

She wore a creaseless dark blue blazer over a pristine white blouse that was neatly tucked into a black high-cut skirt. Her new police badge was pinned on her blazer and I saw a fountain pen placed inside its pocket. My eyes looked up at her and I stifled a gasp. Her lovely brunette locks were pulled back in a ponytail making her twinkling hazel eyes stand out more. It was such a simple look yet she still managed to look breathtakingly stunning.

I was snapped out of my reverie when she spoke, "Would you please stop staring at me like a tiger hunting its prey?" I heard her perfectly but all coherent thoughts fled my mind when I saw how her luscious pink lips formed every word she spoke.

Hell! What is wrong with me today? Too much caffeine I suppose?

After a moment of being fascinated by how quirky her eyebrows looked, she narrowed her eyes at me and slammed a folder on my desk; the impact strong enough to startle a few birds on the window sill. Its contents spilled out and I saw that it contained several pages of a personal profile. My personal profile.

"What is this?" I raised an eyebrow at her while gesturing at the sheets that now cluttered my desk.

She rolled her eyes, "Should I start stating the obvious, Mr. Clifford? You doubted my skills and challenged me to find out about your personal life. I simply accepted your challenge and presented you with my findings. I'm sure you'd find it beyond satisfactory," she then gave me a lopsided grin and proceeded to exit my office.

I was surprised that she took my challenge seriously. I was expecting her to ignore my taunt and shrug it off. So now that she's here and playing my game, might as well take a look at her work. I quickly stood up and blocked the door before she reached it, "Shouldn't you wait for my verdict on your little investigation game?" I said with a grin of my own.

Her jaw tightened slightly but she managed to give me a tight lipped smile. She began to trace the collar of my shirt with her finger and I swear, my thoughts almost fled me once more, "Hmm. That does sound interesting but I'm afraid I'll be neglecting more important 'investigation games' if I stay," she replied softly and then winked at me.

I gaped at her. Did she just flirt back at me? I guess my reaction was just as she expected because she started to laugh and gave my chin a little push to close my mouth, "I never expected you to be this easy to tease, Mr. Clifford." I coughed back my embarrassment and just smirked at her.

I followed the outline of her body with my gaze as she retreated to a chair near my desk, "This wouldn't take long considering how short the report is," I said as I proceeded to gather the sheets in my hand. I grabbed my mug of coffee and took a long sip since I didn't trust myself to keep awake. Sitting on the edge of my desk, a few steps near her, I started skimming over her report and the amount of information she gathered in such a short amount of time shocked me.
