VICTORIA MORETTI

I realized I was staring too hard and too long when I heard a cough.

'God that was so embarrassing.' I thought.

I totally forgot about the cigarette in between my fingers. That was only until I felt a bit of weight on them. I quickly looked down to look at my cigarette, the awkward silence building up.

I slowly brought the cigarette to my lips and took a puff. Letting the chemicals burn into my throat. I always knew it was bad, but it was my only way at unleashing some sort of stress. And having the nicotine hit my lungs made me feel a sort of ease.

I was half way through my cigarette and I decided to give it Tom since after he saw my little episode in the restaurant, I figured he needed relieve some stress too.

So I tapped his shoulder, he didn't turn at first, so I decided to move my body front a bit and turn my head to my left direction to get a look at him. It looked like he lost consciousness, just to see I waved my hand in front of his face and nothing happened.

Since that didn't work, I tapped his shoulder again, he didn't budge. 'Shit what is he thinking about it's making him so concentrated.' I thought. Maybe he's thinking about what happened today and how he has to deal with me. If he is thinking about that, I kinda hope I scared him off because I surely don't wanna work with anyone, because then that means I have to be responsible on his whereabouts.

I was getting irritated, so decided to push him, not too hardly that his left elbow would hit the concrete, but enough for him to get back to reality.

His head went high rapidly and his eyes started to go on all directions. That was until his eyes met mines.

I just asked right away what took him so long to noticed I was trying to get his attention. He just gave me a simple "Sorry, I wasn't aware you were trying to get my attention." In a flat voice, yet I could still hear the slight attitude.

"Whatever." I mumbled. "I just wanted to know if you wanted my other half of a cigarette, since I won't need it anymore." I said in a dead voice trying to copy the same voice he once gave me.

"Yeah, sure." He said in a low voice. It gave me the slightest goosebumps.

I handed my cigarette to him, and as I felt him taking the cigarette from my fingers, I felt his fingers touching mines. I felt something, not sure what feeling, but it felt like the same feeling I felt when we held eye contact inside the restaurant.

"Stop acting foolish Victoria." I said in my head. Because really I felt like I was acting like all of those little girls back at my school when a boy ever gave them the slightest attention.

I just pushed those feelings away and tried to ignore them.

I was gathering all of my belongings, putting them in my bag and started to stand up.

Tom seemed to noticed I was ready to leave. So he spoke up "Are you leaving?" After taking a small pause and throwing the cigarette on the concrete floor and stepping on it.

"If you are, I could possibly drive you if you don't have anyone driving you." He said in breathy voice. "No, I'm alright you don't need to drive me I'll call a cab." I said trying to sound apologetic, he clearly didn't wanna give up so he spoke again.

"You sure? I could give you a ride I really don't mind, I have didn't have anything to do after this meeting." 'Can this man not take a hint, I don't want him to drive me.' I thought to myself getting annoyed.

"Yo-." I quickly stopped him from continuing his sentence. "TOM." I yelled in a low voice. "I don't need you to give me a ride. I'll call a cab." I said in a croaky voice, since that cigarette made my throat dry as fuck.

I started to walk away, when suddenly I felt a big cold hand touch my left shoulder making me face their face. I was confused with the sudden act. But as I was realizing what position I was in, I froze, from shock.

Our faces being inches apart. His hot, heavy breathing hitting my cold face, I felt the hairs in the back of my neck sticking up, the hairs on my arms sticking up, I felt every hair stick up with certain reactions in certain areas.

We were in that position for a good five minutes, none of us doing anything just starting deeply at each other, well at least that's what I was doing, looking in his dark chocolate brown eyes, observing at every feature this man had.

I think that was my only option for right now, except backing way and turning around going home. But I'm not a pussy, I'm not doing that if we're getting out of this position then he's gonna have to move.

A couple of seconds later he started backing up slowly, still maintaining eye contact with me. I have to be honest with you this is surprising having a man keeping eye contact with you, since most men I've met either don't have the courage, or they hold it but not for long. I gotta give him some sort of credit.

I waited for him to walk away and waited for him to be unseeable from my eyesight. I let out a breath full sigh. I hadn't realized I held my breath for that long.

I started to go to the opposite direction, the direction I initially wanted to go but was weirdly interrupted by that moment we just had.

I called a cab to go home, said my 'goodbyes' and payed him. I was walking up to my front door, getting my keys from my purse, when suddenly I saw  the slightest movement in the corner of my eye.

I looked at that direction and the movement quickly stopped, the movement came from a bush, a medium size bush not too big but not too small. I would usually walk up to it and see who or what would be making that noise, but I was just simply too tired to even walk over there.

All I wanted to do was get too bed, take these stupid heels off and sleep, dealing with the consequences the next day.

When I found my house keys I was already at the front door, unlocked the lock and immediately dropped my handbag to the floor, immediately taking off the painkilling heels, and crashing onto the couch. Falling asleep to a deep slumber.
