Hermione

I dove around for hours looking for Oscar's car but I couldn't find him anywhere I thought he would be. All I wanted was for him to come home and be a fimily for our child. To give it one last try for her, it was the least he could do for his daughter. As I was driving home my phone buzzed in the passenger seat, looking down I seen Oscar's face pop up. I was quick to grab the phone and answer. "Where the fuck are you?" I asked before looking up into a bright light.

My dad and I sat in the waiting room with Abuelita as each second ticked by like hours. It had been three months since my dad had told me about Abuelita's plan for Hermione. I was nervous because I knew the time we had together I had to make special. I knew she wouldn't know I spent every day in the hospital room after school. She didn't know I quit my job at the shoe store to be with her. She also didn't know I broke things off with my girlfriend to be with her as much as I could. I couldn't bring myself to spend time with anyone other than her. If she didn't pull through the coma then I would feel guilty for not being here with her. "How are you feeling?" My dad asked looking at me. I stood up and we walked away from Abuelita.

"I feel like I'm going to have a manic episode if I have to sit here and wait to see her any longer." I whispered to him softly. "Cortez you know there is nothing we can do right now but wait. If you need to go outside and smoke you can. I'm not going to yell at you if you need to take the edge off. As soon as the doctor comes back with news I will come get you. Don't lash out just because you can't sit with her at this very second, you've been with her every day since it happened. Please, go smoke a blunt." He whispered handing me his car keys. Never in a million years did I think my dad would tell me to do that.

As I sat in the car smoking a fat blunt all I could think about was Hermione. The doctors had called Abuelita and demanded she come to the hospital immedietaly. My dad almost rear ended three cars to get here, with Abuelita and I in the car. I could slowly start to feel the calming THC pumping through my veins and making my brain to produce dopamine. "I've never felt so relaxing." I said aloud. I couldn't help but put on For the Good Times by Al Green. It made me lose myself in the soft tones, almost like a daydream.

Once the song was over I decided it would be best to head back inside. As I opened the car door all the smoke that was trapped inside with me poured out. My lungs burst with laughter thinking about how it must look to a complete stranger. Hermione always said she wanted to hotbox my dad's car. "I hotboxed it for you Mione." I whispered as I walked into the waiting room to my dad and Abuelita. "You look like you're calmer now, but you smell like a skunks ass." Abuelita stated making my eyes buldge out of their sockets. "That's because he was going to have a manic episode. Otherwise he would be grounded for a month and a half." My dad told Abuelita who giggled. "I'm not angry about it. I do the same thing when I need to take the stress away. It also works wonders for the arthritis." Abuelita said making my dad look at her in shock.

"Cruze family" A doctor called making us all go dead silent before standing up. My knees buckled and I felt my stomach knot up. The calmness from the blunt wore off as soon as her last name was called. "Please follow me so we can have this conversation privately." The doctor commanded and we followed behind him in utter silence. I felt a heavy dread wash over me but I had to hold it together. I didn't know what the doctors were going to say and I also had no idea if it was going to be good or bad.

My dad sat on my left side and Abuelita sat on my right. They both held my hands as the doctor sat down and gave us a second to get situated. "There has been some major changes in the past few hours with Miss. Hermione. When you go in please try to remember that she is still in critical care because of her wounds. Please try your hardest to keep physical contact to a minimum, we don't want to cause internal damage while she's in the process of healing." The doctor said before standing. "Please follow me to her room." He spoke before we all stood up and walked with him. My heart was pounding in my chest. He didn't tell us if this was good news or bad, either way we had to find out.

With each step we took I could feel the muscles in my legs beginning to quiver. The hallway her room was on usually took three seconds to walk down any other day but today, it felt like ten minutes. As we made it to her room I felt my insides jerking like they were going to jump out of my throat if I opened my mouth. The doctor opened the door and there she was. Her eyes were shining bright green and her smile was bigger than ever before. A scream echoed in the building before Abuelita ran into the room and gently hugged Hermione. "Aye Dios Mio!" She yelled as tears ran down all of our cheeks. "You're awake." My dad whispered in shock, glued to place he stood. "Hermione!" I yelled running past my dad to get to her side.
