Kate sat eating cereal at the table. Another day, another school form to sign. Yakko was currently signing a permission slip to allow Kate to go swimming this afternoon from 1 till pickup time. Kate stopped eating for a moment and asked, "Yakko, are you legally allowed to sign that even though you aren't my real legal guardian or parent?" Yakko looked at her and then back at the paper. "I don't know but when did you become smart?" He said as he marched over to her and ruffled her already messy hair in pigtails.

He then placed her permission slip in her book bag. "Are you sure I have to go?" She asked. "What do you mean? You don't want to go swimming and have fun? Man what kid are you?" Yakko replied. "No no, I want to swim but... the kids still hate me!   And they won't talk to me and I'll be all alone!" Kate complained, putting her hands to her face. "You won't be alone!" Said Yakko. "Why?" Asked Kate, in confusion. "You'll have me! Parents can come and watch! Won't that be fun!" Said Yakko with a smile. "Hey maybe they'll even let me come swim with you!" Said Yakko nudging her with his elbow.

"Really?" Kate said happily. "Actually no, toons can barely be allowed in most public places let alone IN the pool!" Said Yakko, his smart side coming out. "Aw.." Kate said sadly. "But who said we couldn't break the rules!" Yakko said with a smile and laugh. Kate smiled. "Guys it's 7:55!" Called Dot. Yakko looked at his watch. "We gotta get going don't we? Cmon you let's get you to school!" Said Yakko nearly dragging her out the door until he realized she didn't have her shoes on. "Hurry up!" He complained. "Im trying!" She yelled back angrily. Finally she got them on and the two of them ran across the lot with much haste.

"We're late! We're late! For a very important date!" Yakko chanted in mockery as him and Kate ran to the school. "Stop mocking! I know we're late I'm sorry!" Kate said angrily as she tried to keep up with Yakko who was running quite fast. They ran and ran until they got to the school. The first bell had already rung and everyone was pretty much inside. "Ok love you!" Yakko said quickly. "Bye!" "Bye!" They both said as they parted ways. Kate ran into school so as not to be late. She made it in class JUST in time. The bell rang and Mrs A closed the classroom door after her. Kate sat down swiftly as class began.

"Alright class, before we begin can everyone bring up their permission slips to go swimming?" Asked Mrs A. Everyone took out their slips, including Kate and hurried up to the teachers desk. Kids whispered and spread rumours while they all waited their turn. Suddenly a kid decided to blurt it out. "Mrs A! Are toons allowed to come?" Asked a guy by the name of "Randy" he was the know it all kid, and just so happened to love picking on Kate. "Oh well honey... why would you ask that?" Replied Mrs A. "Because Kate's family are toons and the slip says family can come, do they count?" He asked once again. "Well, that's not up to me but I suppose they can unless stated otherwise? I don't have a problem with it.." said Mrs A.

Randy seemed to be ok with her answer and shut up. Thank goodness! That kid talks way too much! Finally Kate gave in her permission slip, she was the last one. Mrs A smiled at her and whispered. "I hope to see your brother there!" With a wink. Kate smiled. She was glad that somebody at-least cared about her and her family. Now come to think about it... she did have a friend... yes she was a teacher but friends come in all shapes and sizes don't they? "Alright class! Let's begin!" Mrs A called as class started.

*************A few hours later****************

It was now time to get on the bus to go to the pool! Kate stood in line, Randy next to her. "So Kate, is your brother going to be there?" He asked with a smile. "I don't know, why?" Kate asked. "Oh nothing, it's just you think he's going to come but Anna says her dad works there and that toons can't come in!" He said crossing his arms. "Anna? Her dad works at the car wash you liar!" Kate said crossing her arms. "I know what you're doing, you're trying to get me to decide not to go because my brother can't, but I am not going to listen to you!" Said Kate angrily in reply.
