"rafe I can't put either of us through this anymore as much as I love you, I cant put up with your bad behaviour and you don't deserve to have to put up with my behaviour either."

"I understand. I want you to be happy." He lets out a loud whimper. "I'm gonna miss you."

We stayed there for a while. We both cried to each other, neither of us could leave. My hands kept on trembling, I couldn't let him go.

How do you let go of your first love? How do you just leave them sitting there? I was afraid to get up as I knew it was official. No more sweet dates, no more picnics, or late night movies. It was over.

Rafe broke the silence. "Why does it hurt more this time?"

"Because it's the last time. You know, rafe, a good friend told me that our love was the hurting kind I never wanted that for us."

"Before you go, Riley, one last kiss?" I nodded at him quickly, I needed this.

The kiss was tender. Rafe held my face in his hand, his thumb wipes away my tears as he looked up at me sadly.

"I love you, sweet girl." He whispered gently, I let go of him and got up.

"I love you too, goodbye, my sweet boy."

And with that I walked away from him as I clutch onto my heart.

Who knows if he and I would ever be together now but I'll always love him.

I walk back home, to see my brother with his arms open wide.

I ran into his arms as my tears streamed down my face and he caressed my hair.

"It's gonna be okay." He told me

"I had to let him go." I said softly

"I know. Sarah rang me." He nodded

"It's for the best okay. Rafe isn't a good guy when he's on drugs." He says

"I know." I said softly

"I'll be in my room." I told him

I walked upstairs to my room closing the door and laid down on my bed.

I looked through my phone of the photos with rafe and I smiled softly.

Eight months later...

Senior year was over and I had to go to university so I could get a job.

I wanted to be a doctor like my mother but wasn't sure if I could do it.

I applied to a few colleges including Yale, now its a waiting game.

A few weeks later I heard back from a college, just outside of outer banks I had gotten in.

I was attending my first week there as topper had to make sure I had everything.

"I'm only a phone call away." He told me

"I'll be fine." I told him

He kissed my head and got out of the car as I grab my suitcases.

"I'll see you on the weekend." He waved

"I love you top." I smiled at him

"Love you too kid." He smiled back

He drove away and I headed to the office to get a dorm key.

"Room 406." The lady says

"Thanks." I nodded

I grabbed the key and headed for the elevator as I bump into someone.

"Sorry." I said softly

"It's no problem, are you okay?" He asked

"I'm fine." I nodded

I look up and I saw a boy about my age smiling at me sweetly.

"I'm Austin." He tells me

"Riley." I shook his hand

"I better go unpack." I told him

"See you around." He waved to me

I walk to my dorm and I unpacked my things as a girl walks in.

"Hey, I'm felicity." She says

"Hey, I'm Riley." I nodded

We got to talking and she told me about this dorm party later.

"I'm in." I smiled

We unpacked and headed to the party as I grab a drink from a table.

"So where are you from?" She asked me

"Outer banks." I told her

"Never heard of it." She shook her head

As we were talking I noticed Austin and he waved to me.

"You know him?" She asked

"We met earlier." I nodded

"He's supposedly some rich kid." She says

"Oh is he." I nodded

"Yeah. He's a snob like all of them." She goes on

"Right." I said softly

I'd never tell her that I come from a lot of money if she thinks that.

"Hey stranger." Austin smiled

"I'll be over there." Felicity tells me

"What's her problem?" He asked

"No idea." I lied

I was in the kitchen drinking when I saw someone that I didn't expect.

"Rafe?" I said in shock

"Riley. You go here?" He asked me

"Yeah, you?" I asked

"Just started." He nodded

"You're hair, it's gone." I smiled

"I shaved it off." He chuckled

"I like it." I nodded at him

"See you around." He smiled at me

He walked out of the dorm and I felt a small smile spread across my cheeks.

College life was so much like high school except for the petty fights.

It was like one big party, every weekend someone was throwing one.

Rafe and I had gotten closer again and I decide to give it another shot.

I was dancing with my friends when I felt tipsy so we sat down.

"Need some help, baby?"

My face lights up, immediately placing that voice. "Rafe." I yelled, throwing my hands up at the sign of my boyfriend.

I left Rafe grab my hand, using the other to wave bye to my friends.

"Where are we going?" I ask, eyes wide as I looked around for my friends-everything was a bit blurry though.

"Home, love."

"Home? But I just got here?." I whined

Rafe tugged me out of the side door, pulling his key out and unlocking his car, "why do you think I'm here baby? Your friend called and told me you are absolutely smashed."

I pouted as he buckled my seatbelt, I swatted at his hands. "I can do it."
