Madison POV

I just spoke for the first time in years.

I sit on my bed completely startled by what just happened, when I hear a knock on my door. My parents open the door and walk in.

"Hey honey. Happy Birthday," my mum says as she hugs me.

"Hey princess. Happy Birthday," my dad kisses my forehead and sits on one of the chairs.

My mum takes a little, wrapped box with a bow on top out of her purse and gives it to me. I smile and take it. My parents watch expectantly as I open it.  There's a phone in the box.  I take it out and examine it. Why would I need a phone? It's not like I have any friends to text and even if I had, what would I do? "Hey, it's Maddie. Remember me? I'm your friend that has been stuck in a nuthouse for two years." I don't think that would work.

As always when my parents visit, things get awkward.

After a while my mum finally speaks up: "Now you can text us and.. maybe..uhm..eventually call us?"

I nod and force a smile.

Really? So I can text  them? Eventually call? Nope, I don't think so.

We all sit there in silence until my dad coughs and stands up.

"I think it's time for us to go. Bye Maddie," he kisses my forehead and leaves.

My mum gives me a hug and runs out the door to catch up with my dad.

I put the phone on my nightstand and grab my favorite book, The Fault In Our Stars. I've read it so many times already, but it's like the best book ever and John Green is the best author ever so I don't care. I finish the book once again after crying for like, fifteen minutes over chapter 21. I put the book next to my phone on my nightstand and go to sleep.

Harry POV

Did she really just speak? I don't understand why people think she can't be helped, she's just a girl who's been trough a lot.

I can't get her out of my head when I do my finally check up round with the other patients.

Should I tell her psychiatrist that she spoke? Or should I wait until she feels more comfortable talking?

All these questions run trough my head as I go to the locker room and change into my normal clothes, I grab my phone and keys out of my locker and head outside. I decided to walk to work since it's getting warmer outside and I only live about a mile and a half away.

As I approach my house, someone calls me from the other side of the road.

"Haz!"

I turn and see Niall, one of my best mates, cross the street.

"Hey Ni, long time no see."

"Yeah, how are you mate? I heard you were volunteering at that mental institution."

"Great, I like it. The colleagues are nice, so are most of the patients."

We walk further to my house.

"Do you wanna come in?" I ask Niall.

"Sure thing, mate."

We walk in and Niall plops on the couch as I go to the fridge to grab some beers.

"Isn't Louis home?" Niall asks.

"Nope, he has to work late tonight. You wanna order pizza?"

"Sounds good!"

We order pizza and I tell him about the fact that I can't get Madison out of my head.

"Well, that's pretty fucked up mate. Do you really think you should get involved?" he looks at me with a concerned look on his face.

"I don't have a choice but to get involved, I really want to help her," Niall nods.

"If you really think you should help her, I'm in."

"What do you mean?" I give Niall a confused look.

"I'm going to help you help her, mate," Niall laughs.

"Thanks Ni."

After Niall goes home, I, like every night, go up to my room to do some more research. I save all of it on a hard  drive and go to sleep.

Okay, so I know it's not that long and it's kind of a filler chapter, but I still like it :)

When I was writing the Madison part I was listening to I Hate Everything About You by Three Days Grace and when I was writing the Harry part I was listening to old, cheesy Taylor Swift songs. So that's why Madison is a bit harsh and Harry's part is a bit cheesy lol.

I'm super excited to start writing again.

Thanks for reading and being patient ;)

XOXO
Mackenzie
