Flashback

Becky opened her eyes with difficulty, doing it slowly, because the harsh light made her head hurt more. After the brunette gave herself time to get used to the lighting, she looked around the room. The lighting was actually dim, although at first she thought it was very bright. The walls were brick and peeling. There were huge cobwebs in every corner of the ceiling, which made Becky swallow, as she is afraid of spiders. Despite the small size of the room, several shelves with boxes were placed around its perimeter.

Right in front of Becky, being tied to a chair, sat a certain brunette unconscious. The girl's head was slightly lowered, but in general, an approximate portrait could be made. Becky's brows furrowed as she tried to figure out why the girl in front of her seemed familiar. She was carefully examining her face when the brunette suddenly turned her head so that a better view opened up. Becky's pupils widened at the realization that had come to her. She remembered that once this brunette made her heart flutter for the first time.

And somehow her heart fluttered again, just as it had then. Maybe even stronger. Becky doesn't know how much time she spent staring, but she still looked away, although she wanted to endlessly look at the beauty of the brunette. Becky turned her head to the side where the other girl was. Her blond hair was disheveled, and there was a small abrasion on her lips. Becky was trying to figure out if she knew this girl to make a connection, but she was sure she hadn't met this blonde before. Then Becky returned her gaze to the familiar brunette, peering into every inch of her face. Everything was perfect about the girl in front of her: her long brown hair, which was disheveled now, but still looked great; her eyebrows, which were frowning at some moments; even her eyes, the color of which Becky could not see due to the fact that they were closed; her small nose; and, finally, her lips.. Becky caught herself thinking that she would like to kiss the brunette. From this desire, her cheeks turned red and she shook her head negatively, as if trying to bring herself back to reality.

Then she realized that the blonde had already woken up and was watching Becky for a while. This made Becky blush, and the girl next to her smiled faintly.

"Ah, sorry.. I didn't notice you were awake. Anyway, let's forget it. What's your name?" Becky smiled sweetly at the blonde.

"Don't worry, I totally understand why you're staring at my girlfriend. She's really beautiful, isn't she?" The blonde giggled at how the girl in front of her got nervous. "I'm Kate."

"Haha, sorry, I didn't know she was your girlfriend." Becky smiled sadly at her own words. "I'm Becky." She wanted to shake Kate's hand, but handcuffs on her hands would make it more difficult for her, so she refrained.

"Her name is Freen." The blonde noticed Becky's questioning look and decided to explain. "You know, I thought you might be interested, since you were staring at her like that."

"Well, it doesn't matter so much now that she has you. I'm not the kind to destroy other people's relationships for the sake of my selfish desires."

"I'm very jealous, by the way." The blonde got a questioning look again. "And if you're thinking, why am I saying that now.." Kate took a deep breath before the words left her tongue. "I know that sometime in the future it will be yours. In a future where I won't be around her. I know I can rely on you. Although I don't understand why, but while you were looking at her, there was so much sincerity and some mixed, but warm feelings in your eyes, and a smile involuntarily appeared on your face." Every word was given to the girl harder and harder. "Actually, I'm not sure about my decision. I'm selfish and I want to keep Freen, not let her fall in love with someone else, but it's better this way. As they say, if you love someone, you need to be able to let go, right?" Kate bitterly grinned with these words, swallowing a lump in her throat.

"But why?" Becky said, sobbing. For some reason, these words touched her.

"Becky, I'm sick. I have stage four cancer." A single tear rolled down Kate's cheek. "I don't want to live my last days under pills and constant treatment. And I don't want Freen to remember me like that. She doesn't know. I'm asking you to tell her about it for me. Whatever happens here today, you and Freen have to get out. I'm staying here. Please don't talk me out of it." Kate could hear Becky sobbing, who couldn't hold back the tears.

"You know, this isn't our first meeting with Freen," Becky said after a while, when she calmed down. "That was six years ago. We met on the beach. She gave me her zip-hoodie and left. When I wanted to go after her, a guy appeared next to her and something held me back then."

"Becky, it wasn't her boyfriend, if that's what you're thinking. It was her brother, Kai. He died from an overdose of drugs that he was drugged with." Kate shook her head. "That beach is the place where she was last with her brother. Fear wouldn't let her go back there." Suddenly the blonde changed the subject. "Becky, promise me that you won't repeat your mistake on the beach when your fear prevented you. Promise me that you will fight for Freen and that you will take care of her." Kate looked at Becky pleadingly.

"I promise I will."Becky looked at Kate with a look full of determination, despite the fact that she felt sorry for the blonde.

End of flashback

"And then we were talking about different topics and you woke up." Becky sighed heavily as she dumped the load. Of course, she didn't tell the whole conversation and omitted the part about the flutter of the heart, about the fact that she wanted to kiss Freen and other things.

"Bec-Bec, I love her so much.." Tears did not stop pouring from Freen's eyes throughout the whole time.

"I know, I know." Becky pulled the brunette into her arms, gently running her hand down her back, as if she was holding a porcelain doll ready to break at any moment.

At that moment, Becky's heart sank, she didn't know what exactly: from the way Freen called her, from the state of Freen, who was heartbroken, or from their closeness at the moment.

But there was one thing she knew for sure: she was falling in love.

It was slow, but it was happening. No matter how hard Becky tries to restrain herself, you can't order your heart.

And as selfish as it was, she hoped that one day Freen would get over this grief and be able to move on. Becky was ready to wait, even if many years passed, she knew she could stand it. Even if it hurts. This time she will fight for Freen. After all, this chance was given to her for a reason, though at what cost.

After all, if people are destined to be together, fate will bring them to the last, right?
