Breadcrumbs? What is he talking about? It is figurative language, isn't it? Don't try to guess you are not good at it, just smile and answer like Bella trained you!
"You are avoiding my question, why?" I said.
"Has any illusionist ever revealed his tricks?"
"You are not a magician." I blurted.
"Anyone with brains and money can create illusions, Ángel. It's like the enchantment that lit up your face when you entered this garden." He smirked and nodded to the waiter to come with the wine.
The waiter showed him the bottle and opened it with his approval. All their meticulous movements gave me the impression that we were in a fancy restaurant, not the backyard of a house on a hill. My gaze was lost in each of his gestures, unable to resist his hypnotic presence.
I only realized my amazement when the waiter filled my glass with wine. The translucent liquid glowed like a spellbinding potion in the candlelight. Tempting me, drawing me into the hidden abyss of those brown eyes that unveil every layer of my soul.
"Let's toast." He said.
"Another toast to miracles?"
"No, to an enchanted night, Ángel."
"Magic is nothing more than an illusion to one's eye." I lifted my glass and took a sip.
The floral and fruity taste pleased my taste buds like a delightful elixir that made it difficult to suppress a spontaneous sigh of pleasure. A triumphant grin crossed his face when I opened my eyes, unsettling me.
"Desire always overcomes reason, Ángel. Deep down, everyone wants to believe in magic. Isn't that how religions, myths, and legends were born?"
"They are mere conjectures based on a lack of scientific knowledge." I look into his eyes, defying him.
" In fact, logic can destroy any enchantment in the world. But is it the only way of explanation for things?" He raised his eyebrows.
" I am sure there is always a logical explanation for everything."
"Really? Could you explain your desires logically?" He smirked.
"For sure." I straightened up, holding my head high.
"I dare you, Ángel." His piercing gaze challenged me.
I felt my cheeks burn under his intense gaze, unable to answer anything.
"Your mind is trying to silence the lust burning inside of you. It is a losing battle." I felt his eyes caress every inch of me.
"That's just an assumption on your part." I blurted out, trying to get my composure back.
"I am going to enjoy proving to you that I never guess, Ángel." He said with a victorious glint in his eye.
His confidence made me shiver and made me feel vulnerable and excited at the same time.
The waiter brought the antipasti and served them to us. Ignoring his gaze, I tried to enjoy the delicious taste of the Caprese salad. We ate in silence until the waiter brought out the baked figs. I couldn't help but sigh with pleasure again at the divine taste of the figs mixed with goat cheese, prosciutto, and honey.
"I'm glad you like the figs, Ángel."
"They are divine." I smiled.
"It has the taste of my vacations in Florence. Giuseppe's mother always greeted us with these antipasti."
