as the warm waves from the deep salty sea crash against my bare feet i can’t help but take a deep breath, allowing my mind and nose to communicate.

i smell the air, hot and humid, i smell food carts, sunscreen, and sea foam.

i feel the water, washing up around my ankles, then leaving at the tips of my toes.

i can hear the soft caw of seagulls looking for lost food someone’s abandoned.

i can taste the salty water filling my mouth as i’m taken by the light teal waves,

it stings my nose and leaves me coughing, but i can’t help but laugh.

i can’t help but laugh at the happiness i feel, the joy it brings.

the beauty of the blue glistening water, the tan you get after hours in the blistering sun, the sand in your hair, and everywhere else too.

the endless scrubbing to get the salty smell and coarse sand off of your skin.

the giving up on washing your hair, and leaving it dry and sandy for days.

the feeling of true peace while you’re there, the swimsuits, the large over shirts to go into gas stations to get a drink with, and the sandals you end up loosing on the beach.

the beauty of sunsets you get to watch while sitting in the sand before going back to the hotel.

it’s something you can’t explain perfectly with words,

it’s an experience that you have to be there to know

how truly beautiful it can be.
