I woke up. It was dark outside the window; I had obviously been sleeping for a while. Everyone was asleep around me. They were all wearing the eye mask that had been provided. I looked at my watch; it was 1:35 AM. I decided to go back to sleep…
BOOM! There was a thunderous noise and everyone immediately woke up from their slumber. A sign started flashing; it said ‘EMERGENCY’ in big red, block capitals. Everyone pulled out their life jackets from under the seats. I rapidly put on my life jacket and positioned the mask just as I had been told. People were panicking, screaming and shouting. It was a horrific chaos.
I felt the plane’s nose drop down, one of the engines had burst into a stream of savage flames. As we started falling we hurtled down towards nothing. The cabin door swung open, and I saw us plummeting down heading towards the sea. It was gradually getting closer and closer. People were holding onto chairs, door and handles. I saw the blue sheet of water ahead of us as we fell.
BANG! The momentum made me land on the seat in front of me as we hit the surface. Water started seeping into the plane. The lights were flickering and then they went off completely. I saw the emergency exit door. People were struggling to swim as the water got very high. I swam towards the exit door, there was a red latch, and I was gritting my teeth as I pulled it open. The door swung open. Lots of water gushed in the door. I got out and the plane sunk under the water. I looked back at the huge metal plane sinking slowly under the water. An engine caught fire; it was making a loud noise like a person choking. It then exploded. The debris flew everywhere and the damage blew up the plane. The bags and all luggage that was on board the plane spilt out. I was struggling to keep above the water; slowly I was sinking and descending into the misty water below. I saw a big brown briefcase; I got hold of it and pulled myself on top. I used the case as a float, it wasn’t great but it would do. The waves were crashing against me but I managed to hold onto the sides.
I held on to the bag with a clenched fist, as the stronger waves battled against me. My eyes slowly started to close, but I tried to stay awake. I couldn’t help it, and before I knew it I had fallen softly asleep.
