Chapter 2:
The next morning I awoke to a bright sun bursting through my window. I crawled out of bed and stood by my window, pulling the curtains open. I was greeted by a little rabbit sitting in the flower bed outside my window. I smiled. It was days like this a loved. I walked over to my dresser and pulled out a bright yellow shirt with flowers printed up the right side. Then I pulled out a pair of jean shorts. I quickly slipped out of my pajamas and into my outfit. “Today is going to be great!” I said aloud, reaching for my brush. I threw my hair up into a ponytail tied with an orange ribbon. I skipped out of my bedroom and down to the kitchen where my mom and dad were waiting. “Breakfast is on the table when you’re ready.” My mom said reaching for the cereal. “Alright, thanks.” I replied. I sat down grabbing my fork and stuffing eggs into my mouth. “Where’s Kylie?” I asked through a mouthful of food. “Krystal. You know that it is rude to talk with a mouthful of food.” My mom scolded, then added; “And Kylie is sick today. She didn’t sleep well last night and she has a headache.” My smile faded. School was no fun without Kylie. Even though she was 2 years younger than me, we still hung out together at school, passing each other in the hallways and sitting together at lunch. “Oh.” I replied. I set my fork down and pushed my chair out. Then I trotted up the stairs to go see Kylie. I knocked twice on her bedroom door, then let myself in. Kylie looked so sad. She loved days like this too, and today she would have to spend it inside all day. “How are you feeling Kylie?” I asked, sitting down on the edge of her bed. “My head hurts and I didn’t sleep at all last night.” She replied trying to sit up. I gently pushed her back down and said; “Oh, well that’s not very good is it? Why didn’t you sleep well?” “Well, it was this terrible dream. These creatures were chasing me, they had jagged teeth and sharp claws. It was very scary.” The imaginary gears in my head started turning. Creatures? Claws? Jagged teeth? They sounded like the ones in my dream. “Krystal, Krystal!!” Kylie was shouting at me, shaking me out of my thoughts. “Huh?” I asked. “Krystal, what’s wrong?” “I was just thinking thats all.” I replied pasting a fake smile on my face. “Oh, alright.” Kylie says closing her eyes. “I’ll see you this afternoon Kylie.” I say, brushing her hair out of her eyes. “Uh-huh” Kylie mumbles, before drifting back off to sleep.
