Oh! My bad.

"Michelle, I need you in my office, please," Dominic said as he passed her by at the reception.

"Is it urgent?"

"Pretty much."

"I'll be right there," she said.

"Thank you."

She put all her papers aside and followed him. Her legs got week. She closed the door and looked at him, expecting a blow of fury.

"Is something wrong?"

"Well...yes, it is. Sit down, please."

"Dominic, you're scaring me. What's going on?"

He gazed straight through her soul and smiled.

"You're not in trouble, Michelle."

"Oh! Oh, all right then. But who is? Please tell me it's Clarissa!"

"It's not Clarissa, it's Anya. I would like you to let the HR department know that as of today she will no longer be working here."

"What?" She breathed out sharply.

"You've heard me."

"But why?"

"She'll work for Mike."

"Mike?! Your Mike?"

"I think that he's the only Mike we both know. Make sure that he gets the papers as soon as they come into your hands. I want you to deliver them to him. Do you know his address?"

"No, I don't know his address," she said through gritted teeth while Dominic wrote it down on a piece of paper.

"It's important that he gets the papers as soon as possible. I don't trust anyone else that they wouldn't snoop through the papers. There is not so much to do here today, anyway."

She looked at him intently, wanting to protest, but she couldn't get the words out. He was the gentlest man she knew, but when it came to business, one wrong word could fire him up. She witnessed that a couple of times, and it wasn't a pleasant sight. And this was business to him.

"Michelle, is everything all right," he asked in a much more tender tone than she'd expected.

"I...I'm fine."

"Clearly, you're not. What's going on?"

She was silent.

"Go on, Michelle, speak up."

"Are you really going to let Mike take Anya away?"

"We've talked about it long enough. I don't see a problem with that."

"But you're so happy when she is around."

"Anya needs a better chance to succeed. She absolutely has a talent but..."

"Why not, Dominic? You have all the money in the world and..."

"Michelle...don't get worked up about this. We've made the decision, and it's for the best. I think Mike's expecting you already. I don't want to keep him waiting."

Fuming inside, she walked out of his office while strongly gritting her teeth. This was so unfair. Mike has done a terrible mistake, and she needed to make him change his mind. She made her way to HR department, and did her best to remain professional and not show her distaste about that idiotic arrangement that, she believed, only two men were capable of making.

She went directly to Mike's home once the papers were ready. She was determined to sort that thing out, even though she didn't know how. Whenever she tried to confront him, he did something to completely throw her off tracks. Something like smiling so lovingly that she felt like the world around them was blackening, and they were the only ones in the light.
