Kicked out of Heaven

Mike had a habit of waking up at 5.30 am, even though he had nothing to do before 10 am. He got used to it during his studies, when he discovered that he could focus better on the subjects ahead of him if he woke up before the whole dorm room was awake.

Coffee was also an imperative. His coffee machine owned a special place on the counter. He took an apple from the porcelain bowl on the table and bit into it while he waited for the coffee machine to beep. He smiled. As usual, his timing was perfect.

He reached for the counter above his head, and took out two coffee cups. He was in the middle of filling them up when he heard light footsteps on his tiles. It seemed that Anya was just as eager to start the day early.

"Good morning, gorgeous! Did you sleep well?"

"Hey, Mikey, I did! Your bed so comfortable."

"I'm happy to hear that. Your coffee is ready." He said as he opened the fridge and poured milk into her cup. Then he placed the cup in front of her, and smiled. Her hair was ruffled from the pillow, and she tried her best to stay awake.

"Not much of a morning person, are you?"

"That depends. I got used to waking up early, but I don't really like it too much."

"I hear you. You can always go back to bed."

"No, it's ok. Where is Dominic?"

"He's already at work."

"Oh. I didn't hear him leaving."

"He was afraid he'd wake you up. Now, take your coffee and let's go sit in the living room. It's much more comfortable."

She took her cup and followed him to the couch. She lightly ran her fingers over his tousled hair.

"Lack of hair gel, huh," she teased.

"Yeah, it's too early for that. So, how do you feel? Emotionally, I mean?Has the realization kicked in yet?" He said as he ran his fingers through his hair and stretched.

"I feel relieved and happy. You were right. He came back to me."

"Of course he did. Now, I hope you don't mind me saying this but...," he slightly blushed and smiled.

"But what?"

"Well, you know that Dominic is like a brother to me, right?"

"That's fairly obvious. You two are closer than biological twins."

"Good. Now, here goes the question. Now that Dominic is free from his marriage, in love and happy, how long do you think it will take for the two of you to make me an uncle? I need someone to spoil rotten other than you, because Dominic is losing his patience with me."

Anya tilted her head back and laughed. She carefully put both their coffee cups on the table and then she hugged him.

"Mike, your personality and humor is the only caffeine I need in the morning. I think you should ask Dominic. Personally, I wouldn't mind getting to work on it right now, but since Dominic is leaving for work early and coming home late, when I'm already asleep, I think you'll have to wait."

"I can pretty much predict his reactions, you know."

"I'm not surprised."

"I think that all you need to do is call him and tell him that you two should spend more time together as a couple. He'll immediately postpone everything he's working on."

"Wouldn't that be cruel on my part?"

"Not at all. Being a dad is his biggest wish ever since he got married the first time. We all know how that turned out."
