A\N: Chapter 2 of The last thing she'd ever have, Angels. I'm not sure how long this story will be but we'll go with the flow. In this chapter, Jenny finally tells Jethro about her illness and gives him her request. I hope you enjoy this chapter, Angels.
She hadn't known how to tell her ex-lover that she's dying. It wasn't a topic of conversation that was had by many. She knew she had to tell him before Ducky did, regardless of doctor/patient confidentiality and if Jethro had found out by someone else it wouldn't have been good. Their eyes were still locked and she took a deep breath, steadying herself for his reaction.
"I'm not fine, Jethro." She said quietly, Jethro snorted in response as if he were telling her I know. One of Jethro's hands had made its way to her knee, squeezing it reassuringly. "I'm sick, Jethro." She told him bluntly. There wasn't any need to drag it out. She knew Jethro wouldn't appreciate it. Jethro gasped, his blue eyes widened. "How long do you have left?" He whispered, even though it was just the two of them in her office. Jenny shook her head. She didn't know how long she had left to live, she didn't want to know how long she had. "I...I don't know." She admitted to him as tears fell down her face. It felt good to tell someone.
The tears she had held back were streaming down her face with no intention of stopping anytime soon. She didn't know how long she'd been crying for until she was pulled into his strong arms and told to let it all out. And she did.
She cried and screamed into his shoulder while he just stroked her hair and whispered sweet nothings into her ear. The screams had stopped but the tears hadn't, they were still running down her face like a waterfall. "I'm so scared, Jethro." Her voice was hoarse and thick with tears when she finally spoke again. She hated how weak and childlike she sounded. "I'm scared, Jethro." It wasn't the first time she had admitted she was scared but it was the first time she had admitted it out loud. Jethro had tightened his arms around her and kissed her hair. "I know, it's okay." He had lied to her, which she hated but didn't call him out on: it was nice to have someone lie to her instead of being told the truth. They both relapsed into silence, it was nice to have his arms around her again, even if he were comforting her. She'd missed having his arms around her.
She didn't know how long she and Jethro had sat in silence for before he started to talk to her in soft tones.
"I know you're scared Jen, I know you are." He said quietly, rubbing her back. She put her head on his shoulder. "I know you're angry, I know you're scared of what will happen to you but I promise that I will be there for everything, you just say the word and I'm there. You're not alone, Jen." he said softly, Jenny had just listened to him speak, his words had washed over her. She was glad she now had Jethro to help her through this damned illness and that she wasn't alone anymore. She didn't know what to think now that Jethro had been told of her illness. On one hand she was happy that he now knew what was wrong with her and would try to help her but on the other hand, she didn't want him to see her weak, vulnerable. She didn't want the love of her life to see her die a little each day before his very eyes. He didn't deserve to watch her die. He was too good to watch her wither away and die.
"Jen, stop thinking about whatever it is you're thinking about." Jethro had then said. Jenny had exhaled and stood up and had paced the length of her office, stumbling slightly.
"I can't help it, Jethro." She snapped at him, her emotions unpredictable. "You try being diagnosed with an uncured disease that is slowly taking away your life, day by day!" Her voice had risen with each word she said. Jethro had stood up and stepped in front of her and put his hands on her shoulders. "I know you can't help feeling what you're feeling, Jen, but when I said I'm going to be there every step of the way, I meant it." He said sternly. Tears had started to fall down her face again at his words. She didn't deserve him, not even when she was on his team. She had never deserved him. Jethro used the pads of his thumbs to wipe away the tears that had crawled down her face.
"I'll tell you what, whenever you want, I want you to ask me to do something and I'll do it, no questions asked." Jethro told her. Whatever she wants? She thought to herself. There was only one thing she wanted was Jethro, she'd always wanted Jethro.
She looked into his eyes and just stared into his crystal blue eyes.
She didn't know how she had stared into his eyes until she found her voice, it was quiet, soft, almost a whisper.
"I know what I want, Jethro." She had said, Jethro had just looked at her, waiting for her to talk when she was ready.
"Kiss me, Jethro, just kiss me." She requested in a whisper.
A\N: Sorry this took a few days to update, Angels, I hope you are well, I think this story will have three chapters, enjoy, Angels.
