Our conversation had continued for at least 10 minutes before Aiden received a phone call, prompting him to excuse himself and leave our current location.
As the clock struck 4, I made my way to the parking lot where my car was patiently waiting. Sliding into the driver's seat, I buckled my seatbelt securely before embarking on the journey back to my apartment. The drive home was peaceful, and the comfort of my familiar surroundings welcomed me as I arrived. Exhausted from the day's events, I collapsed onto the sofa, and within a mere five minutes, the weariness had led me into a deep, blissful slumber.
I woke up to the sound of my cell phone buzzing on the coffee table. Groggily, I reached for it, but as I checked the screen, there were no recent notifications. Puzzled, I set the phone back down. Just as I was about to drift back into sleep, the phone buzzed again. This time, I realized it wasn't my phone; it was Joy's phone that I had absentmindedly placed in my bag the night before. I retrieved it from my bag and answered it, placing it to my ear without thinking. Little did I know, it was a massive mistake, as a deafening scream on the other end of the line nearly made my ears bleed, courtesy of Joy.
I realized that he was furious with me because I had taken all of his belongings, including his phone, car keys, and not even left him a single penny to catch a cab and return home. His call was coming from the reception, and I could sense his anger through the phone.
I deliberately took his belongings to teach him a lesson, not for his drinking but for causing a ruckus and making me worry. I told him to figure things out on his own, emphasizing that I wouldn't assist him in getting home. Hopefully, this would make him realize that he shouldn't drink excessively, especially when he's not at home, and create such disturbances. I ended the call, making it clear that he shouldn't reach out to others for help either, as I knew he wouldn't even dare to call his girlfriend for assistance.
I arrived at a large advertising company, greeted by a grand entrance with a beautiful path and tall trees on the sides, their blossoms seeming to welcome me to the office. Upon entering, I found myself in a reception area where a young woman welcomed me. She asked why I had come, and I explained my purpose.
I had always been a talented guitar player and a good song composer, sharing my music on social media just for fun. Over time, I had amassed a considerable following. However, it was after I had resigned from my job that my musical talents truly shone. I played a tune that was not only exceptional but also went viral, catching the attention of an advertising company. They reached out to me for a potential collaboration, and I was more than willing to grant them the necessary patents.
As I walked into the advertising company's office for the crucial meeting, I couldn't contain my surprise. Standing before me was Mr. J Smith, someone I hadn't expected to see in this context. I was still processing this unexpected encounter when another familiar face appeared – Aiden.
As Aiden exited the office, I couldn't help but feel that he wasn't particularly close to Mr. Smith. Our brief exchange of glances held no significance at this moment because my primary concern was addressing Mr. Smith about my name deception. While I was prepared for the possibility of forfeiting the patents, I couldn't predict Mr. Smith's reaction and remained uncertain about the outcome.
However, I had gathered from others that the owner of this company had a strong aversion to lies, mistakes, and wrongdoings. While I had been unaware of this business deal back at the bar, I couldn't ignore the fact that I had lied to ensure my safety.
I wished Mr. Smith, and he met me with surprise. We sat down on the sofa, and he offered to have coffee for both of us. We discussed for some time as he explained all the terms and conditions. I couldn't shake off the odd sensation he brought around me. He seemed determined to engage in conversation, making me even more uncomfortable. Finally, I asked him to bring the papers as soon as possible. He left for around 30 minutes and returned with the agreement documents. As I started reading the first sentence, my jaw dropped in disbelief because my name was printed as Kiana.
I meticulously read every word in that agreement, my sole desire being to escape from the situation. So, with great reluctance, I signed the papers in the name of Kiana. Everything about the agreement was perfect, except for the name. Luckily, Mr. Smith didn't request any proof of identity. I had no intention of ever meeting him again under any circumstances. Even my social media accounts contained no personal information, and I had no plans to share my music after signing those papers.
As I was preparing to make my swift exit, someone abruptly blocked my path, and to my surprise, it was Aiden. He took the papers from Mr. Smith and began scrutinizing every detail. His expression grew increasingly dark as he read my name and observed my signature. It became clear that this situation was far from ordinary, and I couldn't shake the feeling that things were about to take a complicated turn.
Little did I know that the twist in this story was only beginning. As Aiden stared at the papers, a heavy silence hung in the room. I couldn't fathom what was going on in his mind, but it was evident that he had recognized something unusual about my true identity.
Aiden finally broke the silence with a slow and measured tone. "Kiana," he said, his eyes locked onto mine, "isn't your real name, is it?"
I gulped nervously, my heart pounding like a drum. "No," I admitted, feeling the weight of the lie I had just signed my name to.
Aiden's expression shifted from confusion to something that resembled understanding, and I couldn't help but he already knew about my secret. The tension in the room was palpable as we stood there, my web of deception unraveling before me.
Meanwhile, Mr. Smith, oblivious to the growing unease between us, continued discussing the terms of our agreement, oblivious to the storm brewing right under his nose.
