Charlotte
I tried finishing all my assigned tasks, since this is my last week in this department. After today, I've got a new milestone to begin with. I'm not really bothered, I'm just a little nervous and wondering what its like working for the CEO. I checked the time after I had everything sorted out. It was almost noon, and I had everything under control, so far. I decided to get to listen to some music and let my mind wander just a little bit. May walks in and makes herself comfortable. We conversed about different things and laughed at random things. Well, there was a knock on the door before Damian walked in, followed by Frederick.
"Ladies, hope you're ready." Damian asked.
I nodded while May responded with a yes sir. Damian just smirked. Frederick the gentleman, held out his hand for May, which she shyly took. I shook my head. Damian hugged me as they walked out. I inhaled his expensive perfume and melted into his embrace. He pulled back, planting a kiss on my forehead. "Shall we?" he asked. I smiled, placing my arm in his, heading out to his car. May and Frederick were ahead of us. From her actions, she seems to be enjoying herself, and Frederick looks smitten by her.
After a few minutes drive, we arrived at a fancy restaurant. We were led to a private booth. A waitress arrived to take our orders, with her eye raping the two gentlemen with us. I rolled my eyes, making May hit my knee under the table, with Frederick staring at May and Damian smirking, not bothered about the stares he's getting. We were talking about random topics, with Damian staring at me till our food arrive. The waitress kept coming around to refill our champagne, of which Damian and I haven't touched ours.
We got back to the company after our meal and having a walk in the park.
"Thank you for the lunch boss." May said, before being accompanied to her office by Frederick.
"I enjoyed my afternoon. Thank you." I said, hugging him when we got to my office.
"You don't need to thank me, cupcake." he said, drawing me closer. He was about leaving when he stopped.
"Is anything wrong, Damian?" I asked, feeling a little concerned with his actions earlier this afternoon.
"Do you mind if I stay here with you?" he asked.
"Naah, I don't mind, you can stay." I answered, confused at his request. He owns the building; he could have just said he planning to sit in the office without having to ask.
"Just forget about me. Go about your things without having to worry about me." he said, to which I answered with an okay.
I went about organizing the documents to make it easier for whoever is taking over from me to operate, raising my head a few times to check if Damian was okay. He seems pretty fine, with he going through his phone at one point, and sometimes meeting his gaze with leaves me being red while he smirks. The was a slight commotion outside, with Jane's high-pitched voice heard within the department. Just then she burst in, without spotting Damian at the corner.
"I told you bitch to stay away from Damian. You're not his type, and he will never love you." she said with so much hatred.
I just sat there because I honestly don't have anything to say, and no one said Damian would like someone like me, let alone love me. She turned to leave, getting startled at the sight of Damian sitting there with his infamous smirk.
"m-Mr. Johnson, I didn't realize you were here." She stuttered, trying to keep her composure but failing miserably.
He just nodded, staring at me. What's with him just staring at me?
"You do need to apologize to Charlotte," he said.
"What?" Jane asked.
"You heard me," he said, moving his gaze to Jane, who looked at me like she was about to murder me.
"Erm, you don't need to. It's fine." I said, not having the mental state to see more commotion. His smirk appears again.
"You should thank Charlotte for having a big, kind heart and making me reconsider my decision on firing you." Damian said, making Jane's face turn pale.
She hurriedly left my office, her head bowed.
"Damian," I said, standing up, with him following my actions. "You didn't need to let her apologize. It was fine." I continued.
"I won't tolerate anyone disrespecting you," he said, coming closer.
"I'm just worried about her." I said it softly.
"Come here," he said, with me walking into his embrace. "I thought of firing her after you replaced her, but you made me reconsider and decide that I'd let Frederick find a role for her instead," he continued.
"Okay, but please." I said, raising my head to look at him.
"Okay cupcake. You have my word," he said.
"Thank you." I smiled.
"Now, let me sit close to you instead; let me leave you to work without being a distraction," he said, giving me a peck.
The rest of my working hours went by like before, and I was done with everything, including my assigned tasks. It was a few minutes until closing time, and I decided to start packing. Mr. Bradford and the other staff from the accounting department came around for a little farewell get-together, which I wasn't expecting.
"Feel free to pass by anytime, dear." Mr. Bradford said
May was here, pouring her heart out as if I were dead.
"You're not getting rid of me that easily, May." I chuckled, even though I was a little teary.
Even though I only worked in this department for just two weeks, I had a few caring people I didn't expect to get. Damian said the flowers and citations will be in my new office. The other gifts will be packed in his car while he checks a few things in his office. We left the office after everything was sorted out.
"We will head to your side, pack a few things and necessities. You're spending the weekend at my place." Damian said, after packing in the driveway.
"I honestly can't accept this kind gesture. You've done a lot for me today." I said, knowing perfectly well that he won't let me.
"As I said, cupcake, I'm not taking no as an answer," he said.
"I thought as much." I spoke. We walked to my side and realized my apartment had been broken into.
"Now, I'm not letting you go inside; you stay here, and I'll check if no one is in there," he said.
"No, you can't go in there; what if whoever came there is still in there? I can't let you get hurt. Either we go together or you're not entering." I said, grabbing his arm.
"Fine. But you'll do as I say. Stay behind me at all times. And run when anything happens, even if I get shot," he said.
"But...."
"No buts, cupcake," he said.
"Okay." I said, It's not like I'm giving any choice. He made a few phone calls before we went in. Everything was scattered, and the furniture was turned upside down. My bedroom, too, was a mess, but my clothes were left untouched. No one was inside, and nothing valuable was lost. It's not like I own anything worth stealing.
Boss," I heard a deep voice right behind me, which made me scream.
"You didn't need to scare the shit out of her." Damian barked.
"I'm sorry, sir. I'm so sorry, miss," the guy said.
"I'm so sorry, cupcake." Damian said, hugging me.
I need to calm my accelerating heart rate before I can process what's actually going on. I didn't even notice Damian had a gun.
"I need you and your team to gather all evidence the intruder left here and any footage if available. Nothing was touched; the door was left slightly open, so I just kicked it to get in, Damian told the guy.
Yes, boss," he said before alerting the others, whom I'm assuming are his team, to come in. Damian nodded before dragging me along.
"We're not taking anything. I'll get you all you need by the time we get to my place," he said. I was still shocked. I hope it's not what I'm thinking.
