I wake up with Coin pretty much cuddled up next to me and I want to move but he looks so comfortable and I don't want to ruin that. I wait until he wakes up, which doesn't take very long, ten minutes at most.
"Morning Winnie." he says startling me. He woke up and immediately had more energy than I've had in years. "Morning." I respond. "Do you know what time it is?" "Umm... I think it's about noon." Coin says. Alby would've never let us sleep this late in the glade, that's probably why I feel so rested. "Do you know when we're going?" I ask snapping back to the present. "I think sometime between six and seven." "Alright thanks." I say stretching.
We sit in silence for a while, probably about an hour when suddenly their leader walks us to us handing each of us a bag of stuff. "It's some rations." He states, he must have read my confusion. "There is some food and a few water bottles in there. It should keep us alive until we get to the safe haven your friends were talking about." Some friends they are. I think sarcastically to myself. These cranks have been treating me better than they did. Ever. "We leave at six." He says and walks away.
We sit in silence for another two hours when Coin pulls his coins back out and starts studying them again before looking up at me. "Winnie?" I look up. "Yeah?" "What are we gonna do when we find the other boys?" I look at him. "I'm... Not really sure." I say. "We're gonna make them pay." Says the leader guy. "No one should be abandoned. Especially not by someone they trusted. So we'll make them pay, for Winnies sake."
Abandoned. The word repeats in my head for a minute before leaving behind a ringing sound that I quickly shake off. "What're we gonna do to them?" Coin asks. "We kill their leader, that'll teach them the pain of being abandoned." He states as if he's planned this a thousand times. I can feel my stomach knot at the recommendation, I know they left me but killing them, him, and there's no doubt that Minho's alive, if only one of us had a chance to make it to the safe haven it would be him. "And if he's already dead we kill the british one, the others seemed quite fond of him, that might cause more pain then killing their leader." "Winnie? Do you want to kill them?" Coin asks seemingly ignoring the statement the other guy just made. "I... I don't know." I try to explain. "Of course I'm mad at them but death is a bit extreme. But if it comes to that I won't stand in your way. Just, just don't kill Newt he could barely run himself to safety, let alone drag my unconscious body along aswell, and I have a feeling he would try if no one stopped him." "Newt? Who's Newt?" Coin asks. "The British one." "Great, and now that we have established everything we can start preparing to go. We have three hours, get everything you need prepared cause we're not coming back once we leave." He says out loud more to everyone else than me as I don't have anything.
Everyone starts looking around for stuff they might want or need while I stand up and go back to the room I changed and had that strange encounter in. The door creaks open. "What do you want?" The guy snaps before I can get a foot in the room. "I uh... I'm just grabbing my raggy clothes." I try to explain. "Why?" He stares at me. The thing still clenched in his hand. "Just in case we need a tiny bit of fabric or something." I try to explain not really knowing myself why I'm grabbing them. "I don't believe that." He says as he stands up continuing to glare at me. "What are you holding?" I ask. This seems to surprise him. "It's mine!" He yells before charging at me and tackling me to the floor knocking the breath out of me. He stands back up and stares down at me. "It's mine." Still winded I lay on the floor trying to catch by breath. "I don't want it! I just wanted to know what it is!" I yell getting agitated.
I finally managed to catch my breath and when suddenly the leader bursts through the door Coin close behind him. "What's going on in here?" He yells. "He attacked me!" I yell. "Jaye! No one wants your damn photo, calm down!" This clearly upsets him. "It's not just a photo! It's the last picture I have of my wife before this damn virus took her from me!" The leaders voice wavers slightly but keeps its tone. "I know Jaye but this won't bring her back." "I know." Jayes voice cracks as his eyes fill with tears. The leaders sighs and calms his voice. "Jaye were leaving the city to help Winnie find the other boys. Are you coming with?" The leader asks swiftly changing the topic. "Yeah..." Jaye responds. "When are we leaving?" "In about three hours." The leader states. "Winnie, Coin, let's give him some space." He says turning to leave the room Coin quickly follows. I turn back to get one final look at him and he's returned to his place in the corner taking the picture out of his hand and taking a long look at it before slumping his head into his arm.
I leave the room and find coin right on the other side of the door. "Ah! Coin. You started me." I yell. "Sorry." Coin says sheepishly. We stare at each other for a moment before Coin starts. "You don't act like the others in your group. They all seemed so uptight and defensive." "Well they probably didn't get to meet you guys very well." I say knowing damn well that's a lie and they would've killed them all if they had the chance. Especially Minho. I wouldn't be surprised if he tried.
I can't explain it but I feel like I need to protect him. To protect Coin. Coin speaks getting my attention, there's a certain excitement in his voice. "You really think so Winnie?" "Yeah... Maybe." I respond trying to sound enthusiastic. He continues. "Maybe we don't have to kill them!" "Maybe." I say the same forced enthusiasm in my voice. I hate how I can image Minho hurting this innocent man with no remorse whatsoever. But he didn't, maybe he showed remorse, or maybe something else was keeping him from killing every poor soul here. "I'm tired." I say the first thing that comes to mind to change the subject. "You can nap. Do you have everything first?" The leader asks walking over to us. "Yeah. I think so." I mutter. "Alright. Take your nap." He says walking away. He sounded frustrated.
I sit down and Coin happily sits right next to me his shoulder touching mine, after probably half an hour a horrible sound rips through the air. "What was that?" I hear someone yell. "A burg!" Someone else yells. Coin tries grab onto my arm but when he realizes that the side I don't have one on wraps his arms around my torso instead.
I walk over to a window Coin behind me almost hitching a ride on my back, the flying machine, someone called a burg looks like it's carrying something. Something that looks like a small board or bed, it eventually lowers on the complete other side of the city, I see something is strapped on top of the board before it lowers below the skyline of the buildings in the distance. "What time is it?" I ask hastily. "About four thirty, fiveish?" Someone else yells back. "We gotta go, Now!" I yell, "That's probably them, if they get any further we'll never catch them especially with how many people we have. The leader stares at me for a second then yells to everyone else, "You heard the man let's go!" Everyone else rushes around the leader. "We follow Winnie, if anything happens we stop for no one! You get left behind it's you're own damn fault!"
We leave and try to stick to the shade of the buildings the best we can, I'm close behind the leader who's in front, he appears to know the city the best, we are not quite running but were making good speed especially for the state some of these people are in. Suddenly we stop. "Why are we-" The man in front of me cuts me off. "Hear that?" He asks. It sounds like music, music coming out of a very crappy speaker. "Music?" Coin, who appears next to me asks? We cautiously continue making our way forward, when the leader gets tackled from around a corner, I can't get a good look at what happens when someone grabs me from behind and covers my only good eye with something.
Then I hear a struggle behind me then a yelp that sounds like Coin, I suddenly feel a wave of adrenaline I squirm and fight out of whoever is holding mes grip but the thing stays Infront of my face, as I reach to rip it off I'm grabbed again by what feel like gloved hands and armour, I try to elbow them but my elbow just hits the metal of their armour and gets that weird tingly feeling, I can still hear Coin fighting behind me and the leader struggling in front of me then nothing behind me and soon the silence is all around me, I still can't see anything when I try to fight again but this time with even less success.
Seconds later I feel a prick in my neck before I'm let go. I slump to the ground my legs not working properly when everything gets fuzzy and sounds get muffled, then everything goes dark.
