-Your POV-
"C'mon, Ethan! It's just like battling a bunch of grunts! We'll be fine." I assure the dark-haired boy. His brilliant gold eyes scan the building looming ahead, reasonably cautious. "Honestly, Team Rocket isn't as strong as they boast. Let's go in already!"
Standing before the headquarters of Team Rocket, we dawdle before its entrance. We'd traveled this far, taking steps to achieve our dreams, but also to take down an evil organization known throughout multiple regions around the world. We were instructed to go to a 'souvenir shop' located in Mahogany Town. The city had a suspicious air to it, as rumors say that it's a hiding place for ninjas – which only increased my confidence. We were to invade the hideout and emerge victorious. I had full confidence in my team.
"Shouldn't we wait for Lance to come?" Ethan mumbles. I follow his gaze, which is a sign above the doorway that displays the description of the place.
Just a Souvenir Shop
Nothing Suspicious About It
No Need to Be AlarmedBefore I could respond to him, the door to the 'souvenir shop' swings open, and out skips a young girl. "Oh, welcome!" She exclaims upon noticing us loitering on the paved sidewalk. "Are you here to buy from my grandfather? He sells stuff that no one else has! It's super duper rare!"
"Sure," I shrug and begin to unhesitantly follow the girl inside.
I didn't notice that Ethan hadn't entered the store either before the door clicked shut behind me, and he called after me, "I'll wait for Lance!"
Thinking it rude to dash out the door to reunite with him, I simply stayed at the child's heels as she led me through the small room, crowded with items and antiques. I carefully observed the entire space but didn't find anything out of the ordinary. Wooden tables of random assortments of items. Scattered and faded tatami mats cover the soft gray stone flooring. Jars and pots made of colorfully painted clay. An outdated radio playing scratchy music in the back corner.
On the northern wall stands a giant gold cabinet, with glittering adornments and shiny, round handles. That was the most eye-catching piece in the room, but the girl I followed guided me right past it, and straight to the back counter where a shriveled, elderly man sat, fiddling with the radio stations.
"Grandfather!" The young girl chirps. "Look, a customer!"
The old man squints at me as if sizing me up. I glanced around wearily, and the girl only eagerly grinned up at me.
Something about this seems dubious, but I brushed the feeling off. "Hi," I greeted him, slightly masking my puzzlement. Where in the world was the Team Rocket base?
"Welcome," he offers me a thin smile with visibly false teeth.
"I heard some rumors about this place..." I murmur, gaze ricocheting between the girl and her grandfather with quivering lips.
Unexpectedly, the man's expression hardens. "I see." He appears to internally debate with himself for a moment, before casting a look at the enormous golden wardrobe standing tall against the northern wall. "And what exactly did you hear?"
"Dragonite! Hyper Beam!"
Just as I turned to look, a blast of pure light obliterated the golden case, smashing it into unrecognizable pieces in the blink of an eye. From beyond the silhouette of a fierce, yellow dragon-type Pokemon, came the Pokemon Champion himself, Lance. With his absurd, spiky, peach-colored hair, Lance stepped forward, swirling his cape matter-of-factly.
"Just as I thought," he stated, approaching the now smoking pile of burned to a crisp ash. "Here are the stairs. Hurry up, Team Rocket is waiting."
Ethan runs up behind him, amazement dancing in his eyes. "That was so cool!" He exclaims, positively awestruck.
