[ CHAPTER.. 1 ]
The crisp winds blew against Carmilla's hair as she ran in her nightgown.
Mara was holding her hand as they ran, the fall leaves crunching below their feet.
Faint yells from behind them, "CARMILLA!" The people shouted with anger.
Carmilla stumbled, landing on her stomach. Glancing behind her, they were getting closer.
Mara held out her hand, shaking. Carmilla froze in place as the yells were near.
The sound of metal banging, Carmilla blacked out. Carmilla saw Mara, grasping her hand.
As Carmilla awoke, she saw the snow piles outside the clear windows. The soft covers of the— plastic bed, all of this looked foreign, but when she looked to her left, Mara was there.
Carmilla looked around the room, plain beige walls, teal curtains adorned the windows.
' It's ok, Carmilla. This seems unfamiliar but. Its temporary, hopefully at least. ' Mara assured her.
Carmilla looked back at the snowy windows, leaning on Mara's shoulder. ' Why are we here? '
Carmilla asked, Mara looked at her, Mara's eyes were dull. It was always dull, wasn't it?
' They, caught us in tag. ' Mara answered, smiling. Mara adjusted herself, getting off the bed.
Carmila followed along, getting up. Mara walked towards the table of food, and so did Carmilla.
Carmilla looked at the food, unfamiliarly. ' It's not poison, Carmilla. ' Mara said, looking at the—bread. Carmilla grasped the bread, chewing like it was a last meal, drinking the water, Mara watc—hed as it dripped down Carmilla's gown.
The door creaked open, Carmilla's eyes darted towards the door as Mara's also did so.
