I stumble into Reign's room, my head throbbing from the crazy ass time we had the night before. The room, dimly lit and saturated in a dark vibe, felt strange as I tried to get my cousin to wake up from his deep sleep. I knew I needed to piece together the blurred memories of the night before, and Reign possibly held the key to that puzzle.
The first thing I notice is how Reign laid on the bed, his body curled defensively as if guarding some well-kept secret. I go to shake him again, this time more forcefully, hoping for answers. How did we get back to the house? Who put me in the bed? And why did I see Tae sneaking out of Ambers room this morning? Okay. So that one might need to be answered by Amber but still. My determination is met with an unexpected shove from Reign, sending me flying to the fucking floor. Pain shoots through my elbow, and I can't help but let out a sharp yell.
"Damn, Reign! You could'a just said somethin'!" I snapped, my elbow throbbing as I shot him an annoyed glare. "The fuck you push me like dat for?"
Reign makes a face in discomfort, finally acknowledging my presence. His eyes are bloodshot, puffy, and his expression holds a twist of agony that seems to go beyond just a hangover.
"My bad, Kai," he mutters hoarsely. "ain't know it was you."
"Why you wake up like that? You tryna fight nigga?"
"Nah, ma bad Kai. Wassup?"
"I was gone try to cook, you tryna help? You know I'on really know how to cook"
"Yea I can, gimme a minute though" he agrees, grimacing some as he sits up on the bed.
"You hurt or somethin'?"
"I'm good,"Reign brushes off my concern. "I'on wanna talk about it"
"About what Rei?"
"Nothing Kai, fuck. I just woke up an you askin' hella questions" he snaps, surprising me because I've never seen him get upset with me before. If anything Rei always seems happy around me.
"Antonio left a minute ago," I said, softening my tone, sadly. "He texted me to wake you up for yo' date." I hope that by telling him this that it will change his mood and make him happier but it seems to do the opposite.
Reign's reaction to me bringing up the date catches me off guard because we talked about how excited he was for it the day before. He pulls his knees to his chest, hugging them tightly with his arms, and turns away from me. His gaze remains fixated on the wall, as if it could provide refuge from whatever is fucking with him. My curiosity gets the better of me, and I can't help but press further.
"Rei, what's really goin' on?" I ask, a deep sense of unease settling within me. "You was good last night. Somethin' happen last night, didn't it?"
Reign stays silent for a while, still huddled with his knees. Then, after a heavy sigh, he finally confesses, "I just don't feel right, Kai."
I furrow my brow, concern washing over me."Whatchu mean toot?"
Reign hesitates, his eyes darting away briefly before he locks onto mine again. It's like he's teetering on the edge of sharing something, but a flicker of doubt holds him back. "My anxiety fucking wit me," he says in a more casual tone, as if trying to brush it off. "But i'ma be aite"
