Sophie stood in front of her dressing mirror, a sense of unease lingering in her heart. Two weeks had passed since the dance practice, and in that time, she and James had barely exchanged a word. The tension that had emerged during those dance sessions seemed to have cast a shadow over their once-close friendship, leaving Sophie feeling anxious about the upcoming dinner with the three families at the de Rosbourg's estate.

Marguerite, ever perceptive, entered the room with a soft knock. She could see the worry in Sophie's eyes and understood the source of her unease. "Mademoiselle Sophie," she began, "I can see that you're anxious about tonight's dinner."

Sophie sighed, turning to her loyal maid. "Oh, Marguerite, it's just... James and I haven't really spoken since the dance practice. I'm worried about what's become of our friendship."

Marguerite smiled reassuringly and approached Sophie. "My dear, you have nothing to worry about. You and James have been friends for far too long to let a little tension come between you. Besides, I shall put extra care into your appearance tonight. A touch of elegance can give you the confidence you need."

Sophie nodded, grateful for Marguerite's support. "Thank you, Marguerite. I appreciate your understanding."

With Marguerite's help, Sophie carefully selected her attire for the evening. She chose a stunning sapphire-blue gown, adorned with delicate lace and intricate embroidery. The dress was designed to highlight her graceful figure, and it held a touch of sophistication befitting the occasion. Her hair was styled in loose, cascading curls, and a string of pearls graced her neck.

As Sophie admired herself in the mirror after Marguerite's expert touch, she felt a newfound sense of confidence. The elegant gown and the care taken in her appearance imbued her with a regal air. She knew that facing James tonight wouldn't be easy, but she was determined to do so with grace and poise.

Marguerite, proud of her work and the young lady she had helped prepare for the evening, smiled and gave Sophie an encouraging pat on the shoulder. "There you are, Mademoiselle Sophie, the picture of grace and confidence. Now, go and enjoy the dinner. I have no doubt that you and James will find your way back to each other."

With Marguerite's words echoing in her mind, Sophie made her way to the de Rosbourg's estate, her heart filled with both trepidation and hope.

As the elegant horse-drawn carriage pulled up to the grand entrance of the de Rosbourg's estate, Sophie and her mother stepped out, the soft glow of lanterns casting a warm and inviting ambiance around them. Sophie's mother, with her usual grace and charm, joyfully greeted the de Rosbourg family, complimenting the magnificent buffet that had been prepared for the evening's gathering. Sophie, following her mother's lead, exchanged polite pleasantries but remained less talkative, her thoughts preoccupied.

To her disappointment, Rosie couldn't make it to the dinner tonight, as she had another event to attend. Sophie had been counting on her best friend's presence, needing her support to navigate the complexities of the evening, especially in light of her current situation with James.

As Sophie entered the lavishly decorated dining room, her gaze instinctively searched for James. She found him engaged in conversation with Theo in a corner of the room, the two young men engrossed in their discussion. Her heart skipped a beat, and a mixture of anticipation and anxiety washed over her.

When it was time to take their seats at the elaborately set table, Sophie carefully located her assigned spot and took her place. As she looked across the table, she met James's gaze, her heart racing at the sight of him. Their eyes locked for a brief moment, a myriad of unspoken emotions passing between them, but neither could muster the words to break the silence.
