SAM's POV

~Tuesday morning, Spanish class~

Another day, another hour of español ...

Today, the teacher told us we had to pick partners for this short Spanish assignment. Both partners basically had to introduce themselves to each other, then write it down in Spanish. Piece of cake. Diggy and I were obviously being partners, but guess who decided to snatch him up before me? Mhmm. Julie.

"Hey, Daniel, you wanna work with me?" she asks him.

"Of course! I'll work with you," Diggy says with a smile.

"Um, hold up. Squeeze me," I said obnoxiously," Dig, I thought we would be partners. Ya know, since we're always partners in this class," I remind him.

"Yeah, well..." he turns to face me. "Come on, Sam. Just this once let me have this. She's new here and... we can partner up another time. Okay?"

I sigh.

"Okay. Whatever, Dig. I'll just work with Jake then..." Referring to another classmate, a light-skinned Hispanic guy, that sits across the aisle from me.

As I'm working with Jake, I hear little giggles from Julie and Diggy's corner. I peep over at them every few seconds because I can't concentrate with them laughing so much.

"Yo, Sam!" My partner Jake snapped his fingers in front of my face.

"Huh? What?" I reply, acting confused.

"Focus. Stop looking at other groups so we can get this done," he says. He's on the varsity boys basketball team as well, but he's not too cocky like all the other dudes. He's pretty chill and laid-back.

"My bad... I just can't focus with all this noise," I sigh while rolling my eyes.

"Well, let me help you. What's your favorite color?" He asks with a lift of his eyebrow.

"Blue."

"Good. What do you like to eat?"

"Anything and everything." He was writing down my answers. I read the next question. "What do you like to do in your spare time?"

Me and Jake looked at each other and said at the same time: "Basketball!".

We both laughed and continued the assignment.

~Gym class, the locker room~

I was getting changed into my basketball shorts and gym shirt. Becca's locker is right beside mines and she was doing her hair.

"Can you believe that new girl stole my Spanish partner? I mean, who does she think she is? I'm gonna have to tell her wassup," I told my friend.

"Samantha, Samantha, Samantha... why are you making such a big deal about this girl? She just moved here and you're on her neck like she did something wrong girl," Becca said with a chuckle.

"That's because she did do something wrong!"

"Like what? Make friends at a new school? Sam, you're worried about nothing," she said while putting on more mascara.

"Whatever, Becca. I know what I'm talking about, and I'll find out what Julie is hiding one way or another..."

"And what exactly am I hiding, Sam?" Julie walked up behind me with curious eyes.

"Nothing. Nothing at all... let's go to the gym, Becca," I said. I grabbed my friend by the arm and pulled her out of the locker room. Julie and her 'friends' stared at me as we walked out. Forget them.
