They lie in silence, listening to each other's measured breathing without saying a word. It was quickly getting dark outside. The room, which was all in brown tones, plunges into twilight, only for a moment before sunset, casting shadows on the two lying men.
Day snuggled into Mork's side, placing his hand on his chest and looking out the window with misty eyes at the gathering dusk. Mork lazily strokes the top of his head, mindlessly looking at the ceiling. In fact, Mork thinks Day has fallen asleep a long time ago because he hasn't moved for a long time. It's not surprising: they arrived in Songkhla two days ago and traveled almost up and down, paying attention not only to the modest local architecture and temples, but also to the mountains. Mork remained stoically silent, but to be honest, his legs were falling off from fatigue, unlike Day, who became happier and more excited with every step he took. Yes, Day is younger, but not so much that Mork needs to rush to draw up a will, and he is an athlete, which means he has more endurance, but Mork also does not sit around like a white collar worker, after all, he works as a mechanic. But whatever the reason, now Mork is very glad that they are just lying there. There is no need to rush somewhere because of the fear that the opening hours of this or that local attraction will be over, or that it will rain heavily, and they have not yet managed to climb the highest point of the city. It felt good to just lie there. Especially if it was "just lying there" with Day. With Day, everything became "simple" and "wonderful."
Mork looks down at the top of Day's head, ready to remove his hand to position the sleeping guy in a more comfortable position-because if he stays in this position any longer, Day's arm will go numb-but before he can move, Day says:
" P'Mork, if I tell you one thing, can it scare you? "
Goosebumps ran down Mork's back from a bad feeling, but he answers:
"Depends on what you're going to say, Day."
Day is silent for a while, then with difficulty gets up because his hands have started to go numb, leans his knees on the mattress and sits on his heels. He looks from his hands to the window and back again, looking uncertain and maybe even scared. Mork sits up on the bed and takes Day's hand in his, rubbing it so that the tingling of the needles stops as soon as possible.
"You're the best thing that's happened to me since the accident, Phi."
Mork doesn't let go of Day's hand, rubbing it a little harder than necessary after Day's words. He doesn't like where the conversation is going. Such words are often uttered before parting, he knows what he is talking about. All his internal resources are now thrown at not winding himself up ahead of time, giving Day a chance to explain everything to him calmly.
Day continues unhurriedly, looking out the window:
"I'm grateful to you for staying with me, despite my not very good behavior at the beginning. I'm grateful that you had the patience to be with me, although others in your place would have sent such a rich blind kid to fuck and would not tolerate him even for money."
"You're not blind yet." This is the only thing that Mork pays attention to from everything Day said.
He understands. He understands everything Day wants to tell him. They had talked about it before, and he would say it again if necessary. Mork is with him at will. At first, yes, it was a profitable need for both. Then a sincere friendship appeared, and after that it transformed into something that even a word like "love" would look faded. Mork can say the word "love" in relation to Day, but he thinks that it does not reflect even a hundredth of what he actually feels for Day.
"But I'm going blind soon, it's inevitable. And I accept it."
Mork looks up and their eyes meet. For the first time, he says out loud that he accepts what will happen to him sooner or later. Mork promised him that even if he lost the light, he would enjoy life, because there would still be five senses, the influence of which he greatly underestimated. He promised him that he would stay with him and they would continue to live a full life together. He assured him that this promise concerns him, Day, a man whom he greatly values, whom he wants to take care of, with whom he wants to share his life in spite of all the dissatisfied. They promised each other that it concerns only the two of them, and no one can prevent them from doing so. There are only the two of them at each other.
