Walking into my house felt like the dark cloud I had over my head a few moments ago had returned, I didn't want to hear any more because I felt like at this point I would break apart, when I walked into the living room I saw my dad pacing around until he saw me then he stopped and rushed towards me, at first I thought he was mad and was going to hurt me so I flinched but I felt his arms circle around my back and placing my head on his chest " I'm so sorry son, your mom and I both are, we were so absorbed by each other's anger that we didn't notice it was affecting you as well, I never thought I'd ever do something like that, not to my precious boy".
I could feel that he was slightly shaking which meant he was crying, this shocked me because my father wasn't usually the kind of man to become emotional like that, sure he was a goofy guy that liked to joke around but I'd never seen him cry and that just broke my heart, I'd rather have him mad because then he wouldn't be like this, he would still look like the strong man I know who seemed to hold the problems he faced at bay " It hurt you know, seeing you both fight, I couldn't take it but mostly I couldn't take not having my parents there for me but I'm not going to just blame you guys, you all that just to try and all this family together for me but now, now I want you two to be free of each other because all you do is hurt one another " I pulled away from my dad to look him in the eyes, he looked like a mess, his brown hair was all over the place looking like he had been abusing it with his fingers, his usually bright green grey eyes looked so dim and didn't seem to hold that spark anymore and the smile he had wasn't there anymore, he also looked to be much older now as the stress lines ran across his forehead and the sides of his face but if the was one thing I still knew, it was my dad is a handsome man even now as he looked like a hot mess.
I just hoped he would get back to how he was in the past " where's mom" I asked because I didn't seem to hear her " your mom and I, well we are divorced now, we signed the papers and she left there after, she also left a letter for you to read on top of your bed in your room, just please read it because If theres one thing I know about your mother is that she can never say the words she holds in her heart so writing is the next best thing " my dad smiled a bit at that, probably remembering one of his fond memories with mom, which also made me happy because it made me think that atleast some of their joyous memories together weren't destroyed and were still held dearly, trust me I know both my parents will never get back together and I wouldn't want it any other way but it still kind of hurt knowing I wouldn't have them both together anymore but I hoped they could both find happiness, so I nodded at my dad " sure I'll go read it" I was about to go when he called out my name " can we have a movie night, you know since you'll be going back to school and all that tomorrow but it's totally ok if you feel that you aren't ready for that yet " I smiled at the man, he really was trying to make amends, so I was going to meet him half way, I was going to meet them both half way and I knew I couldn't just forgive them but they are my parents and I would always love them .
