'Hungry.....' Lucidius thought as he roamed the streets, hopefully encountering some generous rich man who would offer him some money and food. He wore tattered clothes and reeked of smoke and trash, surely nobody would offer anything to a disgusting creature as him right? Maybe offer some gazes of pity but that's it. If anything were to describe Lucidius's life, then it would be 'unfair'. He was born into a pretty rich family, not lacking in any funds whatsoever. But at the age of 5, his parents got into an accident and passed away. They hadn't left behind a will so it would naturally pass to him but his bastard of an uncle came and swooped it all away. And what can he do? He was still 5! The uncle at least had enough heart to send Lucidius to an orphanage, and Ludius enjoyed his years living there. But at the age of 15, the people of the orphanage kicked him out, claiming that he was of age to get a job and support himself. Lucidius was a clever and smart kid but nobody really wanted him so he became a homeless. It was tragic, and Lucidius hated his uncle for bestowing upon him a life like this. At the same time that he became a homeless, he also began to have lucid dreams. Lucidius had an amazing imagination and visualization skills so he thought maybe that was the case. But he began having one every night, and he loved it. In these lucid dreams he could do anything he ever wanted whether it was flying, teleporting, magic, creating things out of thin air, anything was possible as long as he wanted it to happen. He was basically a god in these lucid dreams! This was the only thing that was keeping him sane at this point. 'Haaahh I. Am. So. Hungry.' Nobody was giving him anything as he expected, so he decided to go see if any convenience stores had some expired goods that they were willing to give. Now Lucidius was by no means an ugly guy, but if you were homeless for 2 years wandering the streets and digging trash cans for food, you will look and smell bad regardless, so when he walked into the convenience store the cashier worker and everyone inside grimaced at the sight of him. "Hi there, is there anything we can...umm...help you with?" The store cashier asked. 'Looks to be 16, one year younger, and she still got a job... Haaah, I'm so pathetic.' "Yes, is there any expired goods that you can give me?" "Y-yes, sir." As the woman went inside the 'Staff Only' room, Lucidius decided to head outside due to all the disgusted stares. The woman came shortly after with a bag with expired things that the convenience store couldn't sell anymore and Lucidius thanked her greatly. 'Poor kid, so young and already a homeless...He kinda sounds familiar though...' Lucidius was unaware of her thoughts as he wolfed down on the expired foods and let out a satisfied groan. 'I should do this more often...no, every day! Much better than dumpster food or people's leftovers at McDonald's' It didn't even take 10 minutes for Lucidius to eat up the entire bag's foods, he was just that hungry. 'Haah these foods were pretty fitting as my birthday food, not as good as pizza or cake, but beggars can't be choosers!' That was right, today was his birthday meaning he was finally 17. But Lucidius didn't want any presents, he was fine with what he had. And what he had were the greatest experiences of his life: Lucid Dreams. "Hmm, I wonder what I should do today? Maybe bring back my dead parents and have a talk with them? Maybe find out where she is?" He was about to tear up at the thought of his parents and his friend who left the orphanage when he was 8 years old. 'I wonder what she's doing now...' As nighttime slowly came, Lucidius decided to go to his 'shack' which was just a small hut he made with some stones and carboard. He decided not to have dinner and just dive right into the sweet release of sleep. But as he fell asleep, he noticed something weird. Instead of his normal dreams where he instantly became aware that he was in a dream, this time, he was standing in a dark place. The place wasn't exactly dark as it was illuminated by thousands of stars so it was more like space, in fact, he noticed that he wasn't standing, but actually floating! 'Woah, this is so, amazing! It's beautiful! But...why doesn't anything 'work'?' He tried teleporting himself back to earth, or creating a burger to eat, but nothing worked here, not even when he visualized it clearer than he ever did before. "Are you wondering where you are and why you aren't in control?" A deep, but playful voice asked. Lucidius almost got a heart attack from this voice and immediately shouted back, "Who are you?!" The voice began laughing hard, in fact it sounded like he was running out of breath from laughing so hard. Slowly a figure began forming in front of Lucidius and truly amazed him. 'Woah! So...beautiful!' The figure that appeared had a cloak on with a big hood covering his face. On his cloak was what seemed like the galaxy, with different stars and planets revolving around. It was mesmerizing to say the least.
"Why thank you! My colleagues also tell me that I'm pretty looking too! I guess being the God of Dreams has its perks huh?" The deity chuckled at that last sentence but Lucidius just stood there staring dumbfounded. "Oh, I guess I haven't introduced myself yet now, have I? I am Insomnium, the God of Dreams, and I'm here with some information that can change your life." "And, what is that?" Lucidius was still a bit skeptical, but the fact that this being entered into his lucid dream and was able to read his mind like that was a bit intriguing. "You see, your world is very corrupted and...strange. This information is not public yet, but your world is going to war soon, in....approximately 5 years. In 2 years your world will be split to two sides, one side that supports democracy, and one side that supports communism. It gets so bad that a 'world ending' war will break out with nuclear weapons flying left and right. Now, you're probably wondering what part you have in this right? Well simple, really. While the other gods do not care whatsoever if this world gets destroyed since they can just create another one, I once had a 'human' friend, and I realized that human life is indeed precious. So, I am giving you my power of making dreams, reality. I have been seeing if your body is compatible by giving you a lucid dream every night, and surprisingly, you don't have any motive to take over the world." Lucidius was getting more and more convinced that this was real, but if this was all just the product of his imagination and hopes, then he wouldn't know what to do with himself. "Well don't worry, this is indeed real, and from now on whenever you lucid dream, try not to do anything...bad? Well you get the point, whatever you do will actually happen. And I want you to master this ability to the maximum so that you will be able to preserve this world, and hopefully make it a better place. No need to thank me, if you manage to do this then I should be the one thanking you." Part of the reason Insomnium chose Lucidius was also the fact that he felt sorry for him a bit. "Well, morning is quickly coming so I better be on my way! Farewell human." Lucidius wanted to say something whether it was a 'thanks' or a 'goodbye', but before he can even take another breath Insomnium vanished. Instead, the space and everything disappeared, and he was back in Tokyo City. 'Seems like I'm back to where I usually appear when I enter a lucid dream.' Lucidius was a bit sad that their conversation was so short, but he remembered the words of Insomnium, and decided to give it a try. He materialized 1 million dollars in a credit card, and just like in a normal lucid dream, it worked. But right after he did this, he felt an intense fatigue and immediately fainted. Everything was blurry. Lucidius couldn't really see his surroundings, but when he came to, he was still in Tokyo. But when he tried doing anything that was normal in lucid dreams, nothing worked. He tried all sorts of things, like posing as superman to fly, or snapping his fingers to teleport, but nothing happened. In fact, what happened was people staring at him like a freak. Something was weird, he could still feel the credit card he materialized in his dream clutched tightly in his hand, so what was going on? 'Unless....Insomnium wasn't lying! Then that means--!!!' He realized that he had a ridiculous amount of money in that credit card and was about to shout "HOLY SH-" but he had to remind that he wasn't dreaming anymore. He was wide awake.
