Travis's pov

My 18 birthday is tomorrow and father has been acting weird. he keeps going to the church and acting somewhat nice to me, he sometimes just ignores me completely, I've only got a slap from him so far but I do not understand.

I open the door slowly expecting a hit but I hear my fathers voice "Travis, my boy! You're going to be an adult soon." I nod my head trying to be cautious with my words. "I have a special event planned for your birthday." He said in a sweet yet sickening tone, I felt like I could bawl my eyes out. Why is he acting like this?I then hear footsteps come towards me then as father is walking past me he puts a cold hand on my shoulder. "Boy, tomorrow is the day you become a man so start acting like it."his hand slips off and he walks away going outside and closing the door behind him. He's probably going to the church but why?

I walk upstairs and plop on my bed getting out my phone to text Sal

I feel myself blush but I don't answer. I decide sleep should help the day go by faster so that's what I did. I fell asleep.

I woke up to my father shaking me then I check the time. 7:00am.I'm an adult. "Happy birthday my boy." I was confused. He's never wished me a happy birthday."You're an adult now.I need to show you something"he carries on. I nod not wanting to anger father then I get up as he walks out the door.

I get dressed in my normal everyday outfit and then get downstairs to my father waiting wearing some sort of cloak and holding something silver under his arm "father what's that?" I ask, he doesn't respond and just walks outside but he looks back. I know I should follow him just by the look in his eyes.

I follow him to his car and get in the passenger seat "father where are we going?"I ask as he drives off, then I notice the silver thing was a dog mask. "The church boy. You're going to become a man." He replied with a sickening grin on his face. Why the church?what's so important about the church that I have to see now that I'm an adult? but from the gut feeling. It can't be good.
