—First Person POV.—

There's an echo with each step the men took, easily making their way through the dark building and causing my eyes to flicker throughout the interior—searching for any escape options.

I was being carried by the fur on the back of my neck, having been promised that the wire pressing into my throat would draw blood if they tightened it any further.

My movements had ceased for the time being as they walked and my gaze took time to glance over the passing cages.

Many noticeable mutants could be seen within, some ranging from a few bunnies in one to two literal bears just sitting and staring as we passed.

Even in the darkness, none made any sounds—even going as far as cowering back into the corners of their cells once the shadows of the men passed over.

Only a few lights peaked from the lanterns overhead, casting a dim glow throughout the corridor but otherwise leaving most of the cages basked in shadows.

My attention snapped forward and I caught sight of a gleaming metal door up ahead—illuminated by the lantern's light and glinting slightly, showcasing that it was metal.

The man not holding me reaches into his pocket, retrieving a key to unlock the door—while his colleague just stood back, idly lifting me slightly.

"I can see why they classified this one as a Gold," He comments, his fingers fixing his grip on my fur "The texture is incredibly rich and luxurious."

His coworker stepped forward and opened the door with a low creak, causing my ears to tilt back in agitation.

"I thought they did that cause of the breed? It's always the pretty one's like foxes that are hard to come by." The man before me wonders, not bothering to look back over his shoulder as he started walking into the shadowed room.

I was lifted, signaling my captor's shrug before he followed suit and the door was closed behind us—shutting out the dim light and leaving my eyes to blink a few times, quickly adjusting to the darkness.

Up ahead, there was only one cage held within this room.

My gaze fixed on it.

It stood apart from the ones I had seen beforehand, much larger and sectioned off with imposing bars that exuded an air of restraint.

The bars were thick, straight lines, yet close enough together to prevent even the smallest creature from slipping through, resembling a fortress within this shadowed world.

The metal glistened faintly from the light seeping through the cracks beneath the door behind us and giving the cage an eerie, almost intimidating presence.

As we approached the imposing cage, I catch sight of a clipboard hanging on the wall beside it—I had to squint slightly to see the paper clipped on and the only visible line on the board simply read "Code: Red." with no other context or explanation.

The single word, starkly written in a plain black ink made my heart drop—eyes flickering up in a panic as I was set down on the floor, the grip on the back of my neck holding me still and down along the stones.

The coworker who had the key was standing just in my peripherals, allowing me to witness as he removed the clipboard to scribble another color alongside the previous one I had read.

From my vantage point, I could hear the hushed conversation above me—the man holding me let out a contemplative hum as he watched his coworker.

"You sure Boss would want to put her in with the Red? That doesn't sound right," He remarked after a moment, his brows furrowing as he looked down at me.
