January 1st of 2000, was the day that the world had officially ended. The day was meant to represent a new and prosperous beginning, ending up turning into one of destruction and death.

The once bright green and luscious planet became nothing but a pile of smoking rubble and gritty dust. Billions of lives had been lost, all killed within instant. Everything humanity had ever known had practically collapsed below their feet, thanks to a series of illegally launched nuclear weapons.

But the worst part of this catastrophic situation is that nobody knew. Everyone was kept in this sweet ignorant bliss, thinking the new century was upon them but in reality, they'd be just a pile of burning flesh by the time the clock struck midnight.

Despite, the devastation that this nuclear apocalypse had caused, there were a few silver linings embedded into it. You may thinking about how anything could come out of something so deadly but there were indeed some people who defied all odds and rose up from the ashes. Sure, it was only a few small pockets but it was enough people that humanity could continue living on.

Though, there were many adaptive civilizations during this post-apocalyptic era, our main focus will be on Mount Talladega. Our brave heroes hail from this settlement, meaning it's an important plot point and the catapult for their adventure to outside.

Even before the nuclear apocalypse, Mount Talladega played an important role to the survival of humanity. It was a secretive military base for the Americans but was built for the sole purpose of hosting survivors in case of a war or worse. It's located along the Appalachian mountain ridge in upstate New York, meaning it's sealed off from the hustle and bustle of the cities.

When the launching of nuclear weapons had been announced, Mount Talladega was the first place to seal it off from the outside world. Though many worried of its collapse, the walls stayed strong and everyone inside were shielded from death.

Even after the destruction of the world had quieted down, it's survivors didn't dare to leave. They knew that if they went outside of the walls then they'd be met with instant radiation poisoning and succumb to death in a painstaking way. They realized it was safer for them to stay in the mountain, away from danger.

And over the next a hundred years or so, those survivors (and their offspring) had worked hard to turn Mount Talladega into their new and improved home.
