Chapter Two

Setting: Simpson Law Firm

Jennifer and I went into the office so we could sit down with girls while they ate. They chatted while I worked on some stuff and talked with Jennifer. We were currently talking about a trip wanted to take the girls on this Christmas. They've never been outside of TX, so we wanted to treat them.

"So, who's the new girl?" Jennifer asked once I finished with my emails.

"Who? Oh Ashley. Some temp worker that Sam got me. Nick is currently out with some cold for the rest of the week."

"Hmm" I chuckled.

"You have nothing to worry about baby. It's only for a week." We talked some more before the girls ran off to see Morgan down the hall. As Jennifer and I sat there going over the trip details there as a knock at my door. Ashley.

"Sorry to interrupt but remember you have that meeting at 3:30"

"Okay thank you."

"Hi, you must be Jennifer? I've heard so much about you" Ashley said, speaking to Jen.

"Hi, and you are Alexis?"

"Uh, Ashley."

"That's right, I'm sorry. Ashley. I haven't heard anything about you, unfortunately. I'm sorry you have to put up with my wife."

"Haha, no. She's wonderful. Well, I have to get going, remember 3:30"

"I've heard so much about you. She's wonderful." I laughed and stood up.

"Come on, let's go round up the kiddos so I can get this meeting over with. Take the car and I'll meet you later at the diner down the street from here after I get off." We went to Derek's office and talked for a little bit before Jennifer and the girls left. I made my way down to the meeting room when something or should I say someone bumped into me.

"Oops, I'm so sorry. I guess I'm clumsy today" Ashley said.

"It's alright, did you get the meeting room ready?"

"Yes ma'am. Your client should be here any minute and I also grabbed your laptop and files from your office."

"Oh, thank you. Don't have to do, I can always grab those things."

"I know, just want to help." I nodded and continued my way to the meeting room. I took my seat and got my laptop up and going.

The meeting lasted for the rest of my work day. Working with high profile clients is never my favorite but it always pays good. I grabbed my files and laptop and made my way back to my office. I started packing my things away when Ashley walks in.

"Leaving for the day already?" I looked up from my bag.

"Yes, I'm meeting Jennifer and the girls for dinner. You got any plans?"

"Not really. Go home, make dinner. Cuddle up in bed with a glass of wine and pray for a woman like you." I gave her an awkward smile.
