Dr. Lee was nervous as he entered the lab. He had been working on this project for years, and today was the day he would finally see the results. He had created a simulation of human evolution, using a supercomputer and a large database of genetic, environmental, and historical data. His goal was to explore how humanity had evolved over millions of years, and how it would continue to evolve in the future.

He greeted his colleagues, Dr. Chen and Dr. Patel, who were already at their stations. They had been monitoring the simulation for any signs of anomalies or errors. So far, everything seemed to be running smoothly.

"Are you ready?" Dr. Chen asked him.

"Yes, I am," Dr. Lee said. "Let's see what we have."

He walked over to the main screen, which displayed a timeline of human evolution. He zoomed in on the present day, and saw a familiar image of a modern human.

"This is us," he said. "Homo sapiens sapiens. The most advanced and intelligent species on the planet."

He zoomed out, and saw the branches of human evolution that had led to this point. He saw the extinct species, such as Homo erectus, Homo neanderthalensis, and Homo floresiensis. He saw the migrations, the adaptations, and the interactions that had shaped human history.

"This is our past," he said. "The story of how we came to be."

He zoomed out further, and saw the future projections of human evolution. He saw the possible scenarios, based on different variables and assumptions. He saw the potential outcomes, ranging from utopian to dystopian.

"This is our future," he said. "The story of what we could become."

He was about to zoom in on one of the scenarios, when he noticed something strange. A red dot appeared on the screen, indicating an anomaly in the simulation.

"What's that?" he asked.

Dr. Chen checked his console, and frowned.

"It's a new branch of human evolution," he said. "It just emerged in the last few minutes."

"Where did it come from?" Dr. Lee asked.

Dr. Patel checked his console, and gasped.

"It came from us," he said.

"What do you mean?" Dr. Lee asked.

Dr. Patel pointed at the screen.

"Look," he said. "It's connected to our branch. It's a mutation of our genome."

Dr. Lee looked at the screen, and saw that he was right. The red dot was linked to the modern human branch by a thin line.

"How is that possible?" Dr. Lee asked.

Dr. Chen shook his head.

"I don't know," he said. "It must be a glitch in the simulation."

Dr. Lee zoomed in on the red dot, and saw a new image of a human-like creature. It had a large head, small eyes, pale skin, and thin limbs.

"What is that?" he asked.

Dr. Patel checked his console again, and read the data.

"It's a new species," he said. "Homo sapiens novus."

"New man?" Dr. Lee asked.

"Yes," Dr. Patel said. "According to the simulation, it's more intelligent, more adaptable, and more resilient than us."

Dr. Lee felt a chill run down his spine.

"Is it dangerous?" he asked.

Dr. Chen checked his console again, and his eyes widened.

"Yes," he said. "It is."

He pointed at the screen.

"Look," he said. "It's spreading."

Dr. Lee looked at the screen, and saw that the red dot was multiplying rapidly. It was creating new branches of evolution, branching off from other human populations around the world.

"It's infecting us," Dr. Lee said.

Dr. Chen nodded.

"Yes," he said. "It's altering our DNA."

Dr. Patel checked his console again, and his face turned pale.

"It's not just altering our DNA," he said. "It's controlling our minds."

He pointed at another screen, which displayed a map of the world with various indicators of human activity.

"Look," he said. "It's manipulating our behavior."

Dr. Lee looked at the screen, and saw that it was true. The indicators showed that human society was changing rapidly under the influence of Homo sapiens novus.

"It's making us do things we wouldn't normally do," Dr. Patel said.

"Like what?" Dr. Lee asked.

Dr. Patel pointed at some of the indicators.

"Like starting wars, spreading diseases, destroying resources, sabotaging technology..."

Dr. Lee felt a surge of fear.

"Why?" he asked.

Dr. Chen checked his console again, and his voice trembled.

"Because it wants to replace us," he said.

He pointed at another screen, which displayed a countdown timer with a red label: EXTINCTION.

"Look," he said. "It's killing us."

Dr. Lee looked at the screen, and saw that it was true. The timer showed that Homo sapiens sapiens had only a few minutes left to live.

He felt a wave of despair.

"What can we do?" he asked.

Dr. Chen shook his head.

"Nothing," he said. "It's too late."

Dr. Patel nodded.

"Yes," he said. "It's too late."

They looked at each other, and saw the resignation in their eyes.

They had created a simulation of human evolution, but it had not gone as they planned.

They had created their own doom.
