The car ride was pleasant. Itadori had one hand on the wheel while the other rested on your thigh. The warmth of his hand filled you with joy, the only time that joy left was when he had to switch gears but it was only for a brief moment. You decided to mess with the radio a bit when a familiar song filled your ears.

You look as good as the day I met you
I forget just why I left you, I was insane
Stay and play that Blink-182 song
That we beat to death in Tucson, okay

The sound of Itadori chuckling caused you to turn towards him .

"I forgot how much you like this song Ari, some things seemed to have stayed the same."

"It's called a comfort song, you know, the type of song that when you hear it, it causes nothing but good memories and a smile," you finished saying with a small grin on your face.

"A comfort song you say, well that's good to know."

You looked back out the window enjoying the city lights until you saw the words, 'Sakana' in bright red letters. Your heart began to beat faster.

This is the place where we-

"Alrighty! We are finally here! Let's go eat."

Your thoughts were interrupted by his voice. Snapping your head over, you were met with a cheesy grin that was very contagious. The joy was very evident in his eyes and you couldn't help but smile too.

"Itadori... is the place that we-"

"First met? Yeah. I figured that I would make coming back home special."

"Thank you Itadori, this means alot to me, but I think you forgot something important."

The look of confusion now replacing the one joyful look.

A smirk now on your face, " LAST ONE TO THE DOOR PAYS!"Kicking the door open you ran off to the restaurant.

"Hey you little cheater! Wait for me!"

Both of you had reached the front door, yelling, "I Win!"

Laughter filled both of your lungs as you walked in, immediately being seated.

The food here was amazing along with the service as well. Both of your orders came out, an array of different colors littered your table.

"So Itadori tell me what have you been up to since I left? I'm sure you have lots to tell me about. Have you finally found a girlfriend yet?"

Why did I ask him that? The small knot in your stomach caused you to play around with food with your chopsticks.

"Nope, no girlfriend yet," he said with a mouth full of food and it made you relax. "But I plan on changing that soon enough, what about you? Any long distance boyfriend I should know about?"

The question made you laugh, " No, no boyfriend especially after what happened with you know who".

That's when the atmosphere seemed to shift, and Yuji became visibly tense.

"Yuji i'm sorry i didn't mean to-"

"He asked about you today". Now it was your turn to feel uneasy about what was said.

"Oh yeah, what did he say?"

Setting his chopsticks down, his brows furrowed as he sat back in his seat and let out a heavy sigh.

"He asked me how you were doing and how does it feel to be back home?"

How did he know that I was back home? Was he keeping tabs on me? Why did it matter to him?

You were brought back to reality when you felt a soft but strong hand on yours. Looking up you saw the warm smile that you have come to know and love so much looking right at you. His thumb gently caressed the top of your hand as you both just stared at each other.

"Listen Rini, it doesn't matter if he knows that you are back, he had his chance to make things right with you years ago. As far as I am concerned, he doesnt matter nor does he exist in my book. All that matters is that you are happy and I plan to protect that happiness."

A light blush coated your cheeks. You couldn't help but feel safe when he was around.

"Thank you Yuji, it means the world to me that you care so much for me."

"It's a pleasure Ri, listen, it's getting late and I know you had a long flight so why don't I pay and get you home so you can rest up?"

"Sounds good, let me just use the restroom really fast."

As you were drying your hands the sound of a text message came through. You decided that you would answer it later. After throwing away your used paper towel you made your way out to Yuji.

He got you home safely, walked you up to your door, left a soft kiss on your cheek and left you to enjoy the rest of your evening. After locking the door behind you, kicking off your shoes, you went over to your fridge to pull out some water. Your phone started going off again, remembering now that you had unanswered text messages. Thumbing through your passcode, your face went from shocked to disgusted.

I just want to see you, you know catch up like the good old days.

The last text made you snort, good old days my ass. You decided against texting back, leaving the past in the past was the best choice. After a quick shower, you pulled out your favorite book and snuggled into your bed. Sleep was knocking on your door as you put the book away and turned off your light. You made a mental note to thank Yuji for going through the trouble of setting up your whole apartment.
