"You know staying at this orphanage is so different from what I'm used to." Onika sighs looking up at the ceiling "I'm not used to being around so many kids. I'm not used to sharing a room and looking after anyone but myself.." She wasn't even sure if Beyoncé was listening to her seeing as she was still facing the wall.
"I sometimes wonder if my parents have come back from their vacation yet. Is my mom looking for me and questions like that? I don't know why people keep saying they're not coming back." Onika sounds saddened by the thought. "But I know they are.. it's just taking them a little long to come back is all. I think Ms Eden just offered to look after me till they returned. What'd you think?"
It's quiet for a long minute until she finally hears Beyoncé speak up..
"You wanna know what I think?.. I think you're delusional. Onika your parents are dead. And instead of you to grieve properly, you're ignoring your emotions and creating this fake reality in your head. But let me tell you something.." Beyoncé's voice was so monotone when saying all this and at the point Onika's lips were already trembling and tears were already welling up in her eyes..
"You're going to be here for a long time Onika. A really long time and when you get too old. They're gonna kick you out on the streets. So I advise you to start saving now. Goodnight."
It more than definitely wasn't a good night for Onika because she couldn't sleep, she kept on tossing and turning on the little mattress.
She was having terrible nightmares of her parents getting snatched away from her and that in turn lead her to be wide awake and staring blankly at the open window at 4 a.m. in the morning.
"I'm not an orphan... Am I?" Onika asks softly to herself but as expected there was no reply to her question.
....
Onika was already dressed and ready for school long before any of the kids had woken up seeing as she couldn't sleep the night before.
She went downstairs and made everyone's breakfast and packed up all their school lunches then cleaned up the house, so that when the kids had finally all woken up the house was already clean and tidy.
She'd even offered to feed Evelyn so that the other kids could finish their breakfast in due time and then get dressed for school.

The walk from the orphanage to school was a quiet one. Beyoncé had one of her air pods in her left ear and Onika walked behind her making sure to keep a few steps between them.
She felt a little awkward talking to Beyoncé now after what she'd said the night before, coupled with the fact that she had the unnerving feeling that Beyoncé didn't like her all that much.
By the time they'd finally stopped before the school building Onika could feel her palms getting sweaty and the beating of her chest speeding up a little.
"Y-you'll follow me to first period?" Onika asks shyly not even sure if Beyoncé would've heard her.
"Didn't I promise to walk you to all your classes?"
"U-uh yeah."
"Then there you have your answer."
"Oh okay." She didn't even think Beyoncé would still remember what she'd promised the day before. She wasn't even sure if Beyoncé wanted to be seen walking around with her.
__
Onika shifted nervously on her feet walking into the classroom while Beyoncé stood at the door waiting for her to settle down before leaving.
Most of the chairs in the class were already occupied, except one next to a person in a hoodie whose head rested on the table.
She hesitantly walked over to take a seat next to the person who hadn't even bothered looking up at her.
Now Onika wasn't usually one to be shy when it came to making friends but her yesterday's experience had resigned her to thinking everyone in the school acted the same and that in turn made her not want to interact with anyone.
The teacher soon begun his lesson and Onika noticed the girl still hadn't moved leaving Onika to believe that she was asleep.
She tapped the girl softly on her shoulder which after awhile made the girl sluggishly sit up, "Thanks." She mutters looking up at Onika.
Onika couldn't help but blush at the enticing set of green eyes looking back at her, "No problem." She whispers shyly looking away from her and to the white board.
Throughout the lesson she could feel eyes on her and that made her feel really weird.
"You're really pretty."
Onika couldn't help but blush at the compliment being directed at her.
"Thanks.. you're uh pretty as w-well."
"I'm Robyn by the way." She smiles holding her hand out to which Onika takes in her soft ones. "Onika."
"Pretty name."
"T-"
"Please Ms Fenty do you have something that you'd like to share with the class?" The sarcastic question makes the whole class turn to look at them.
Onika blushes looking down at the desk, meanwhile Robyn just shrugs nonchalantly staring right back at the teacher.
"Nope. Mr Krimble I don't and that's why you heard me whispering."
"I know you know Krimble is not my name."
"I mean it fits you."
"Robyn I'm sick and tired of y-"
"Are you seriously going back and forth with a student Mr Krimble?" Robyn questions in a mocking tone.
"No I'm not and that's why you have detention after school."
"I see what you want Mr Krimble. You could've just told me instead of using detention as a front." Robyn smiles almost seductively winking at him.
With a flushed face and a strain in his pants the man screams, "Get out of my class Robyn."
It was especially funny seeing as everyone knew Robyn to be as gay as the rainbow could be.
The girl just shrugs, "See you at detention Krimble." She licks her lips grabbing her book bag, "See you around Onika." And then she leaves.
The class is quiet for awhile and before Mr whatever the hell his real name was could continue his lesson the bell had rung.
Onika doesn't waste time exiting the class. There she meets Beyoncé already waiting for her.
