Have you ever seen someone and wondered what they were thinking? Have you ever wanted to be someone's friend? Ever wanted to get close to someone without knowing why?
Kim Seungmin wakes up in his dorm room. He squirms around in his bed and sighs, not wanting to get up. He was in his second year of college and was already over it. Seungmin rubs his eyes and stands up, walking over to his roommate who was still sleeping. "Get the hell up." He grumbles, shaking the boy.
"Are you in a bad mood?" His roommate asks, turning to face him.
"If you don't get up, I'm gonna cut all your hair off in your sleep."
"Enough said." The boy sits up and watches Seungmin walk into the bathroom, and in a couple of minutes he comes back out. His roommate then goes to get dressed, and while he is Seungmin walks over to his dresser.
"Hyunjin?" He calls.
"Yeah?"
"Where's your hair tie? I can't find it."
"I have it. Just wait a second." Seungmin sits on his bed, Hyunjin comes out with a towel around his head, a comb and hair tie in hand. He hands Seungmin the two objects and sits down on the floor in between the boy's legs. Seungmin begins to dry the boy's hair with the towel and then sets it to the side. Seeing Hyunjin's hair fall down in waves over his neck.
"Your hairs getting long." Seungmin says, as he combs through Hyunjin's hair. "One day I'm just gonna stop doing this for you."
"Why?" Hyunjin asks.
"Why not?"
"Because you're family. I pretty much consider you as my younger brother now." Seungmin sighs, gathering the upper half of the boy's hair in his hands and tying it back with the hair tie.
"Done. Now let's go." They grab their things and make their way to their first class. But while walking there, they spot them.
"There they are." Hyunjin whispers, and Seungmin looks over to the see four boys dressed in all black. The four boys were always together and not once were they not wearing black. Even their hair was black, except one of them was blonde. They were often called the shadows because of how much they just sat back and observed rather than conversating with everyone else.
As they sit down in first bell, they meet up with their other two friends, Changbin and Jisung. Soon after, the shadows walk in. The teacher waits a minute before speaking. "Shadows. Come up." She says, and the four boys stand up quietly and walk to the front.
"Wait... don't we have a project today?" Changbin asks. "We have to have a group of 8 people."
"You'll be paired with..." She starts to speak again, and the boys begin to get anxious.
"No there's no way. There are so many other people in this cla-"
"Hyunjin, Changbin, Seungmin and Jisung." The 4 boys stare in disbelief as the shadows turn towards them. It was no joke that they were intimidating. "Come on, stand up." She urges them forward, so they have no choice but to stand in front of the shadows. They stand in a line, and then the teacher smiles. "Reach out and shake the hand of the person in front of you. That'll be your partner inside the group."
They start with the first people in line. The blonde shadow reaches out and shakes Hyunjin's hand. The blonde's small hand fit perfectly inside of Hyunjin's, making him smile. But when he looks up at the blonde's face his smile disappears. He had a straight, cold expression on his face, and peeking over the other shadows had the exact same look.
Next, the youngest of the shadows grabs Changbin's hand. He noticed that the boy was short, but his eyes seemed to darken when he felt how strong Changbin's grip was.
Next, Jisung pushes his glasses back up the bridge of his nose and wipes his palms on his pants before the shadow grabs his hand. Jisung notices the boy's fingernails were painted black, and a thin line of eyeliner over his eyelids. He looked almost... cat-like.
Last, Seungmin stood in front of the last shadow. There was an odd tension between the two though they had never really met. Yeah, Seungmin knew who he was, everyone does. But why did it feel different when they were actually in front of each other. The veins on the shadows hand became visible when he clenches his fists. But his expression stays the same as he holds his hand out. Seungmin hesitantly shakes the boy's hand, and as soon as they thought they were finished the teacher keeps them standing.
"Now introduce yourselves, this should go by quickly." The firsts start again.
"I'm Hyunjin." He says, looking at the blonde.
It was silent for a moment. "Felix." Hyunjin's eyebrows raise as he was surprised that the boy's voice was so deep. Everyone else in the class was surprised too. No one knew their names, they were only referred to as shadows, so hearing them say their names and let alone speak at all was shocking.
"Changbin."
"Jeongin." Changbin nods silently, and they move on to the next pair.
"Jisung." He gives a small smile.
"Minho." He slightly bows to the younger, he seemed to be the most... respectful out of all of them. Then it was back to Seungmin and the last shadow.
"Seungmin." The boy says instantly, just hoping to be able to sit down sooner. But the shadow just stares, and Seungmin would be lying if he said he wasn't intimidated. The shadow walks closer to the boy, but without looking at him Minho grabs his wrist while keeping his eyes locked on Jisung's.
However, Seungmin keeps his composure, waiting for the shadow to answer. "Chris." He says, and Seungmin nods.
"Find seats and sit together." The teacher says, and Minho pulls Chris back. They all go and sit down together in silence as Mrs. Kang makes the next group of kids introduce themselves. Felix sits next to Seungmin and looks up at him.
"Don't worry... about Chris." He says, and Seungmin shakes his head.
"Then why was he acting like that? And only to me? I've never even met him before." Felix sighs, lowering his voice so Chris doesn't hear him.
"Because... it means he likes you."
