Shadows ( a sonnet about depression)

In shadows cast by clouds of dark despair,
A weary heart succumbs to heavy weight,
Depression's grip, relentless and unfair,
Engulfs the soul, where joy was once innate.

The mind, a battleground of endless strife,
Engaged in war against its inner foes,
With every passing day, it seeks for life,
But finds instead a darkness that still grows.

A veil descends, obscuring all that's bright,
As hope and light are slowly swept away,
The sun's warm rays replaced by endless night,
And smiles that once adorned now fade to gray.

But though depression's grasp is firm and tight,
Within the dark, a glimmer still ignites.

For hope, though fragile, holds a flame unseen,
A flicker in the heart that won't subside,
It whispers softly in the darkest dream,
Reminding us that love won't be denied.

The weary soul may stumble and may fall,
But deep within, resilience still resides,
A strength to rise above the ceaseless brawl,
To grasp the light that never truly hides.

So let us not surrender to despair,
But seek the strength to face depression's snare,
Together, hand in hand, we'll find a way,
To bring the light and chase the shades away.

For even in the depths of darkest night,
A spark of hope can guide us to the light.
