A Family Friend: Book 2

Changing

It's the next morning, Brooke woke up and finally decided to check her phone after months of not having one since the incident. She noticed all of the messages from literally everyone. Besides the messages from Priest of him coming back to New Jersey to check on her. She sees a voicemail from her therapist. The last time she talk to her was a couple days before she disappeared.

Voicemail: Hey Darling this is Dr.Vera calling to check on you and I got the insight of what happened. If you will like to talk I have no appts until 2 o'clock in the afternoon. I hope to see you here bye.

The time on her phone was 9:14am and she lives 15mins from her office. So she decided to send Dr.Vera a message.

Brooke 💬: I'll be there at 10

No later than five minutes Dr.Vera responds

Dr.Vera 💬: Great and I'll be here waiting

Brooke gets out of her bed and heads to the bathroom to refresh and start her daily's routine. She didn't want to mope around and be mute to everyone like how she did when her grandmother passed. She wanted to hit this issue, wall blocked, darkness head on.

Once she got out of the bathroom she head to her closet and slipped on a skims dress, crop sweater, uggs slippers and her everyday black coach purse. She let her curls hang in the messy Afro that it was already in. When she opens her room door and walk downstairs she exhales because thankfully nobody was home and off at work or school. She grabs her car keys and a bottle of water and head out the door.

Was what Brooke said before locking the house up and waking to her car. While walking to her car she didn't see Priest rental car pulling up. To many things on her mind.

When Priest notices she was going somewhere he decided to follow her after she backed out and pulled off.

Location: Dr.Vera office

"You literally waited for me huh Doc" Brooke smiled when walking into the building and she knows as well as Dr. Vera knows it was not genuinely real.

"Yes ma'am besides I gave my assistant the day off" Dr. Vera smiles back and approaches Brooke with a hug and she accepts

After the long hug that Brooke really deserves and needed. They walked back to her office to get started.

"Before we get started I brought your favorite oatmeal cookies with a side of coffee" Dr. Vera points to them on the coffee table then takes a seat

"Yes thank you because I need something comforting for this session" Brooke says while sitting also.

3 hours later....

"You let out a lot today and I'm glad I had send you that message" Dr. Vera says after taking a sip of her coffee

"I didn't want to hold on to all that especially with this new chapter coming in my life and I don't want my love ones to worry about me anymore" Brooke exhales feeling better after getting it off her chest

"Right we'll that's a start. You knowing that you need a change was the first step" Dr.Vera declared with kindness

"Yes ma'am but I'm going to head out before your 2 o'clock get here" Brooke agreed and gather her belongings

"Ok sweetie see you next week right" Dr. Vera asked

"Yes ma'am of course" Brooke reassured

With walking out the office Brooke felt better than she ever had. When she got to walking by the waiting area. She sees Dr. Vera next appointment and Priest.

"Umm mhm I guess I couldn't get that far if I tried" Brooke says and that got Priest attention

"Hey mamas how you feeling" Priest smiles and hugs her tight but not hurting her arm

"I'm better now" Brooke smiled softly

"You almost scared me...well all of us when you went mute. Thought it would be like when your grandma passed all over again" Priest explained to her but glads she speaking to someone

"And I didn't wanted that to happen again. So I took the first step to many to healing ME" Brooke stated while grabbing his hand and walking out the office

"Well are you hungry because I was going to cook dinner for the everybody back home" Brooke continues to say while locking her car door

"You know I wouldn't deny a plate of good food" Priest said and help her into the car

Brooke drove back home with Priest driving behind her. From what it was in the afternoon everyone be back home by 5 so she have about two hours to cook dinner, something quick at that.

When she pulled up in the driveway she noticed her mom's already home. She parks and get out the car to head in the house. After opening the front door and seeing that's the kitchen is not being used. She headed to her moms room. The door was wide open and her mom laying in the bed with Oreos and salt/vinegar chips. Brooke lays on on the still bed up side and puts her head on her chest.

"Hey Sugar bee" Tammy smiles sweetly as her daughter rubs her belly

"Hey momma" Brooke answer with joy

"It went well with Dr. Vera this morning" Tammy asks because she got a called from today saying Brooke was meeting with her

"Yup perfect" Brooke smiles in relief

"Well I'm glad because I miss you sweetheart" Tammy truly means so much

"Miss you too momma" Brooke whispers

"Want to catch up on our shows and eat snacks" Tammy suggests

"Sure but momma we need better and more snacks than this" Brooke giggles while looking what options her momma have left

Brooke sends a quick text to Priest to go get more snacks for them and a rain check on their plans.

"Priest is getting more snacks for us ok" Brooke announces

Then Brooke and her mom laid up in the bed while catching up on their shows. She forgot about cooking besides it's her dad night to cook anyway and he be glad to cook whatever she wants.
