Chapter 2
As Jaine reached the waterfall, the waterfall curtain formed a shape of a heart, as she nervously reached out her hand to touch the shape her hands went through and she was gently pulled into the other side of the waterfall. She was facing a wall and her hand touched the mossy, cold, hard wall. Jaine immediately felt a strong connection that made her nervous feeling disappear and new sense of confidence passed through her, encouraging her to keep going and to have faith in her quest. Her eyes closed and Jaine felt her blood rush towards her palm, giving her the power to push the wall. She opened her eyes as she heard a rumbling sound. The wall parted, before her there was only darkness, it was like she was looking into nothingness. Jaine’s heart told her to look beyond the darkness and trusting her inner voice, she walked into the opening. She turned for a second to look back as the walls began to close on her. There was no turning back now.
As the wall behind her closed, she saw another wall before her opening. Jaine, walked towards the opening, as her eyes took on the sight before her, Jaine cringed in fear she wanted to run and hide. She saw a black river running through a land covered with rocks mud, it was a barren land, and there was no sun, no trees or flowers. The ground was wet and covered in dirt and mould. She felt cold even though there was no trace of wind. She felt such a sense of lost and hopelessness. Jaine felt her whole body being sucked of all things good, an overwhelming feeling of anger and revenge took over her. All her darkest fears came upon her. Jaine fell down and engulfed with such pain she cried in despair. She felt her Papa’s pain when Mama died, she felt his loneliness and then she felt her anger at Papa for not being there for her, for leaving her to fend for herself , she wanted to lash out at Papa with revenge. She wanted to hurt him, so that he will suffer for neglecting her.
As she cried, she heard a shuffling sound. ‘’Who’s there…?’’ Jaine called out half scared half hopeful. The shuffling stopped and there was silence again. Then a voice spoke “Come my dear, let me look at you” As Jaine lifted her head toward the voice , she gasped at the sight before her, face to face with a hunch back with long white hair, skin so wrinkled you would think it was going to crack. There were horrible scars and moles on the old lady’s face. “I am Lyssa, what is your name?’’ Asked the woman in a hoarse crackling voice. ‘’Jaine” she answered. A feeling of repulsion took over Jaine, she wanted to look away but the more she looked at Lyssa’s eyes the faster her heart began to pound, she saw the anger, hatred and above all the sadness and loneliness in Lyssa’s eyes. Lyssa took Janie’s hand and held it to her heart; “You are a Creator, whispered Lyssa” Janie looked at Lyssa in confusion. Lyssa began to
tremble as she dropped to her knees and covered her face with her hands. A wail escaped her lips as she started to do nothing but sob. Jaine was not sure what to do at first but she kneeled down and gently took Lyssa’s hand into her own. Slowly she relaxed and ignored the odor from Lyssa’s body. Lyssa started to hum a soft tune, Jaine vaguely remembered hearing the same tune from an antique music box she had found many, many years ago in the attic of her home.
After a long time, the old woman calmed down. Lyssa spoke again, she struggled with her words as she spoke, ‘’I have dreamt of you, young one… but I never thought, that you would come, why is it that you are not afraid of me?’ Jaine looked gently at Lyssa and answered, ‘’ A voice in my dream sang this song to me:
See not what your eye sees, Hear not what your ear hears, Let your heart feel the kindness, Let your heart see the gentleness, Believe thy heart as, it is the truth, Follow what thy heart knows is the right path, Not what thy eyes or ears show you.”
There was a short silenced before Jaine continued. “I have been looking and listening through my heart and what I see before me is your hurt and anger, I don’t understand who you are and why I was led to you. You called me a Creator. How do you know who I am? I myself only knew my lineage, when I was 11. Papa brought home a book he found in one of his trip. It spoke of the Heart woman and their legacy. I found the same book in the attic of our home wrapped with an antic music box. You hummed the same tune that I now remember is from that box” said Jaine. There was a pause, before Lyssa spoke again. ‘’Young one, you are very wise and knowing. My story started more than a hundred years ago”
Lyssa told her story of who she was and the story of her great love and how happy she was with her life. Lyssa is Jaine’s ancestor who was also a Heart woman. Lyssa also shared her story of how she never went back to the Heart manor after Theodores was killed. She stayed in the forest and destroyed all her creation. In her quest to find a way to release Theodores from the clutches of death, she forgot her destiny. Lyssa continued by saying “when I was banished to this land of darkness, all I wanted was to find a way out to revenge again. I wanted to destroy the world that took the love of my life, but time healed my pain and now , I only want to go to my maker, and if He wills it, to be united with my Theodores again” .
