"I didn't know you were the CEO, I would not have said those things back then. I'm really sorry for everything." I confessed, feeling ashamed and nervous.

He sighed and said, "Your apology doesn't matter to me. What matters is this interview and we have to finish it."

He walked to his desk and gestured for me to sit on the chair opposite him.

"Look, this is not the first time I hear something like this, especially from an employee of this company. It's nothing new to me." He paused and looked at me with a serious expression.

"I could have fired you, but your resume says you have a degree in business and you could be useful."

He didn't seem as bad as I thought. Maybe this was just the beginning, and I shouldn't get ahead of myself.

He asked me a series of questions and I answered them as best as I could.

The interview went well and I was done. The only thing left was to wait for the call that would make me the official secretary of the SEF company.

"Can I leave now?" I asked politely, before opening the door.

He nodded and said nothing more.

I closed the door behind me and let out a huge sigh. I smiled softly, feeling relieved that everything went smoothly despite the awkward incident.

I called Damian to pick me up since I had finished my interview. I waited in the parking lot until I saw a dark blue car approaching.

It was his car. He loved blue, so everything he owned was blue. He parked in front of me and said, "Hey."

I didn't answer and walked around the car to the passenger side and got in.

"Hey," I repeated, sitting in the car.

He stared at me, expecting me to say something, but I was not in the mood to talk.

"What?" I snapped.

"Are you not going to drive?" He looked at me in the eyes.

"I was going to, but now I'm not in the mood. I had a long day and I just want some peace and quiet." I said and closed my eyes, leaning on the seat.

"I bet you messed up!" He chuckled.

"Don't bother lying, I'll find out everything." He assured me.

I used this silent time to replay what had happened today in my mind. From when I met Magdalene to now.

But, how could he be so young and be a CEO? I wondered. I felt disappointed in myself for being the same age as him and achieving so much less.

This was another side of me, always comparing myself to others. But this motivated me to work harder, not to give up.

(Stomach growls)

"You sound hungry," He said, breaking the silence.

"No, just a little peckish," I admitted.

"Should we stop by a joint and get some food?" He suggested.

"That sounds good," I smiled.

"But you should know that you're paying," I said, looking away.

"Are you that broke?" He joked.

"Don't make me laugh, hun," I said sarcastically.

"I'm not afraid of you anymore," he chuckled.

His words really took me aback. The memories of our past and I couldn't resist it.

He had really changed. I remembered when I used to be taller than him, but now look at me. Karma is a bitch. He had grown tall and muscular. His hair was dirty blonde, which suited him well. Plus, be was a banker.

He was the best person I ever met, besides my family. Speaking of my family, it had been a while since I talked to them.

I needed to call mom and tell her how I was doing and not forget that her birthday was next week.

"Damian, next week is mom's birthday, remember?" I reminded him.

"Yeah, of course, how can I forget that? I'm not you," He teased.

"And I already have a gift in mind," He added.

He was right, I had forgotten mom's birthday last year because I was busy with a date that didn't work out anyway.

"So... are you going to tell me what happened?" He asked, curious.

"Fine," I rolled my eyes at him. "So today, I woke up early as usual, took a shower-

"I don't want that part, I mean at work, what happened there?" He interrupted, smiling widely.

I laughed too. "I had messed up, but he didn't seem to care and we resumed the interview. It was a success, that's all I can tell you, Damian." I said.

The silence was unbearable, so I turned on some music.

"He was also drop-dead gorgeous, contrary to the rumors." I chuckled.

"Really? So you're into him?" He asked, with a forced smile.

"This is so awkward, talking to you about this." I averted my eyes.

"You always share everything with me, even your worst dates, so what's so awkward about this?" He looked at me intently.

I felt a smile tug at my lips. "So you admit you have a crush on him?" He grinned.

I didn't say anything and the music filled the air. But he was still on my mind.

"He had a sculpted jawline and flawless hair. He radiated elegance and masculinity, and his...his eyes were mesmerizing. He was a stunning man. His aloof demeanor was oddly attractive." I blurted out.

Damian just smiled. "Go for it, girl." He encouraged me.

"No way, he's out of my league and he probably has a girlfriend, no doubt about it. No woman would ever let him go." I confessed my insecurities.

"Give it a shot." He insisted. "And if it doesn't work out, we'll deal with it. Don't let this chance slip away." He explained and I  nodded.

"You know what's best for you. I'm just here to support you." He said and the rest of the drive was silent until we got to the diner.
