"If he looks at you for more than 8 seconds he probably wants to kill or have sex with you."

They needed to find a seat. Kat looked around for a seat as she and Liv roamed the cafeteria looking for a place to seat.
"So did you change your mind about doing the deed?"- Liv asked, loudly. Kat snapped her head so hard she almost pulled a muscle.
"Would you keep your voice down?"- she hissed, as looked around to see whether people heard. Fortunately people were deep in conversation, they were probably discussing things that happened during the festive season. I
They finally found a table in a small corner far from noise. They settled in their chairs and set their trays on the table.
"So...?"- she asked curiously. "I bet you changed your mind!"
She'd wanted to. With her love life going slow Kat thought about give up her little quest.
"No..."- she answered reluctantly.
Liv laughed out loud gaining stares from other people, "That's my girl! So what's the game plan?"
Kat gave her a confused, "The game plan...?"
She started opening the container of her chocolate fudge. The excitement in the movement of her fingers evident through the speed she was opening the packet at, "Yeah, how you are gonna get the "DEE", who are you gonna get it from, when are you gonna get it? You know, all these questions need answers."- she said as she took a spoon full of her fudge.
"Aren't you supposed to be on a diet?"- she asked Liv, amusement dancing in her eyes. Like her, Liv had a voluptuous body and with the curves they have came a depressing fluctuation in weight. They could gain weight as easily as they could lose it. Kat kept her weight in check by participating in various sports and it worked. Then the was Liv... She was a special case.
"Isn't our friendship a no judgement zone, Kat?"- she asked. This time with her fries in hand. Kat raised her hands in defeat.

"What about Rodger?"- Liv asked. He could be a good candidate.
Kat's eyes immediately scanned the room looking for the man in question and she found him. Rodger was a good friend but was he really the right guy...? He was good looking, Kat had to admit. His caramel skin, light brown eyes and good boy image made him the perfect candidate but Kat didn't feel him. As if sensing her gaze on him Rodger moved his eyes in her direction. She smiled at him and he smiled back. Liv turned to look at what distracted her friend.
"See, you guys have chemistry!"- she stated as if it was obvious.
Chemistry?? She wouldn't use that word to describe what they shared. They were more friendly with each other than anything. Rodger didn't make her feel like... What's the word for it? She couldn't even find it.
"I don't know, Liv..."- she said in a low voice. "I mean, don't get me wrong Rodger is a nice guy but..."- she trailed off.
"There's no heat!"- Liv added for her.
"I need to live, Liv."- she whispered, desperation dripping from each word. They looked at each other for a while but Kat dropped her eyes first. "Both my parents have lived and maybe that's why they are happy together. Because they have lived. I know losing my virginity is a dump way to get myself to feel alive but... I want to do it. I feel like I am ready."
Kat looked at her friend and she saw understanding in her eyes which was more than she ever got from her cousins.
"I lost mine to a guy who didn't care about me but I loved him. And as much as it ate me up inside I don't regret it. So I understand and I won't judge you."- she reached across her table and took Kat's hands in hers.

Their special moment was ruined when Malcolm and his friends walked into the cafeteria. Kat could not help but look at him. His presence was overwhelming. His broad shoulders making him taller. He was a beautiful guy. Easy on the eye, as her mother would put it. His looks weren't complicated: his light complexion, arrogant jaw and honey brown eyes made an easy combination. His body and his charm made him special. What intrigued her, or any other girl for that matter, wasn't his appearance she really didn't know what it was either but it was in his walk, in his speech and in the way he presented himself. He was just alluring!
"Do you like him or something?"- Liv asked, breaking her line of thought.
That was a good question, Kat thought. She looked at him one more time. He was laughing at something one of his friends said exposing his pearly whites. She liked a white smile. His eyes still held a certain cold expression but for the most part he seemed to be genuinely smiling. Then she concluded...
"No, I don't like him."- she told her friend but she was still looking at Malcolm.
"Why did you take so long to answer me and why are you still staring at him?"
Kat took her eyes off him as her friends asked. She was dazed, she went out of her body for a while, hearing but not really listening.
