Chapter 11: A Misfortunate Event Leads To A New Home

The next few days were spent in preparations for his departure. He let all of the disciples know that he was leaving and spent his last training sessions with them. He also made a trip to the main town and said his goodbyes to all the merchants and store owners who he was close with and enjoyed a nice stroll on the beautiful bustling town that Lotus Pier was.

On these days, Yanli firmly attached herself to Wei Yings side and made sure to follow him wherever he went, not letting him out of his sight for even the briefest moment, claiming that she had to make sure to accompany since she didn't know when she would get to see him again. Wei Ying tried to soothe her and assure her that as soon as he settled down he would come see her and she could also go visit him whenever she wished but she was still restless and refused to leave his side anyway. Instead, she made sure she pampered him to her heart's content and fed him all of his favorite dishes. Wei Ying had always been weak to refuse his sister anything she wanted and he enjoyed having her attention so he just resigned himself and enjoyed these to the fullest.

Last night he had announced he would be finally departing the following morning, and the hardest moment came: saying goodbye to his family.

Yanli was a mess of tears and snort, as she reached her limit and became unable to hold her tears back anymore, but she still managed to give Wei Ying her best wishes along with the beautiful smile he loved so much in her. She also held him in a warm and comforting embrace that lasted quite a while, and was broken only after Jiang Cheng and Uncle Jiang forcefully pulled her apart from her little brother.

Jiang Cheng tried to keep his cool and pretend it didn't faze him at all as he casually said goodbye to him. Madam Yu just nodded to him and then retreated to his chambers, leaving only Wei Ying and Jiang Fengmian alone.

The two stared at each other in silence for a while, unable to come up with the right words to say. Finally Wei Ying found the courage to speak first and thanked him for all he had done for him, for taking him in and raising him as his own son for the past years. It was something that he would be eternally grateful for and he would never be able to repay.

Fengmian smiled as tears quietly streamed down his face and he pulled Wei Ying in a strong yet delicate embrace.

"Be well my son." He said with a raspy voice. "I wish you find in each other the happiness you deserve and remember that this will always be your home."

"Thank you..." Wei Ying said with a shaky voice, tears coming out of his eyes as well as he returned the embrace and said his next word filled with all his love for this man that gave him a home and second family, "Father."

He came back to his room and wept like a baby for the whole night. The two little rabbits snuggled close to him as if they were trying to console him and tell him everything was alright. He held them close to him and found comfort in them.

...

The next morning, he took his belongings and his little bunnies and sneaked out from his room before sunrise, to avoid having to say any more goodbyes to anybody.

But just as he stepped out of his room and carefully closed the door behind him, he saw a figure already standing out of his room, waiting for him: it was Jiang Cheng.

"I knew you'd try to sneak out without anyone noticing." He said with a weak smile that Wei Ying returned.

"And I thought you didn't care whether I stayed or left." Wei Ying complained. He knew deep down that Jiang Cheng was probably the one who would have the hardest time after letting him go, they had stuck to each other's side since they were little, he was his confidant and the one who had accompanied him in all of his endeavors. He knew he shouldn't say those words to him but he was still annoyed that Jiang Cheng had been acting like he didn't care at all these last few days. He was allowed to at least say this much.
