feeling the warmth of the bedding and the bright rays of sunshine breaking through the thin curtains made adam stir. he groaned as the light hit his eye with a blinding ray. memories of the previous night came rushing back to him. he remembered it all, the nightmare, the fear, and lawrence.

he shot up from the comfy sleeping position, rubbing his eyes with the back of his palm as he looked around the unfamiliar room. it was lawrence's room, but where was lawrence? he was taking up half the bed by the time he came to. adam checked around the messy bed littered with blankets and pillows to make sure he didn't suffocate the doctor while he slept.

just then he heard the sound of a front door opening. adam lazily went to check it out, not too thrilled about being awake. he hobbled to the front door where he saw lawrence taking off his shoes. he was back from work already? he caught a glimpse of adam in the corner of his eye, standing there with a messy bedhead and a tired expression.

"are you just waking up?" he asked while trying to bite back a smile. each strand of hair was doing its own thing which bundled up into a completely new hairstyle. "yeah." adam yawned, running his finger through his disheveled hair to get the strands back in place.

"if you want to get dressed, i know a place where we can get some coffee." lawrence offered, not thinking too much about it until he heard adam chuckle. lawrence cocked his head, trying to figure out what was so amusing.

"what you're asking me out on a date after we slept together?" there was a brief pause that followed, lawrence opened his mouth to speak, but he was immediately cut off by a "kidding. you should've seen the look on your face."

he could hear adam's faint laugh as he disappeared down the hallway. lawrence stood there for a moment regathering his thoughts. he was just kidding.

they gave the barista their orders before taking a seat nearest to the window. "black coffee, really? what are you an old man." adam threw in a judgmental tone. though lawrence grew accustomed to the younger boys' jabbing comments. "i'm not that old." he retorted, though he was in his late thirties he didn't think that was considered old.

adam scoffed, "yeah, keep telling yourself that old man." lawrence shook his head in defeat, and turned his gaze away from the man across from him and to outside.

angry clouds covered the skies in a grey blanket, not allowing even a peak of sunlight to break through. "on the subject of old men, who wears a suit to a coffee shop nowadays?" adam said, poking fun at his hazelnut suit.

"i have a job, i'm not going to change into something unprofessional before i go to work." lawrence explained causing adam to roll his eyes. "yeah yeah, i'm sure that's the reason." he said with a smug smirk.

the doctor gave him a puzzled glance, looking him up and down. he wasn't exactly dressed for the occasion either. "just look what you're wearing." he says, taking notice of adam's interesting wardrobe choices. he wore a button-down tropical shirt with palm trees scattered across the sky-blue fabric. along with a pair of jet-black shorts that didn't match the weather in the slightest. it reminded him of a vacation outfit.

"what, it looks good on me doesn't it?" adam asked. he leaned back against the wooden chair with a noticeable ear-to-ear grin. that made even the doctor crack a smile.

"you're an idiot," he answered with a chuckle. not hearing a no, adam hurried to sit back up. "that's not a no." he taunted, "so i'll take that as a compliment."

"now you're twisting my words." a moment of blissful silence followed. even though lawrence was easily willing to drop the pointless debate and put it behind them, adam was known for his stubbornness. "say it then." he egged, breaking the once peaceful quietness of the coffee shop.

"say what?" the doctor asked, knowing exactly what the boy wanted him to say, but wanting to further their prolonged discussion. "say i look good," adam said, looking across the table with his forest green eyes just waiting for an answer.

lawrence knew adam well enough to know he wasn't going to give up, not until lawrence gave in. sure, he could be stubborn at times, but that was one of the many things he enjoyed about adam. his patient eyes filled to the brim with eagerness reminded him of a toddler wanting to get a new toy.

the atmosphere of the coffee shop shifted as the doctor let out a sigh. "fine, you look good adam." he gave in. but his tone suggested that he wasn't being truthful. though this didn't matter to adam, he got what he wanted. he reclined in the chair with a familiar smug grin still plastered on his lips.

"oh come on, you know you like what you see." he purred in a rather suggestive voice. his tone even surprised the doctor. his cheeks grew unbearably warm as he tried to laugh it off as a joke. adam was just kidding, right?

for the next couple seconds, lawrence couldn't stand to look at the boy across from him. his face burned as he tried desperately to regain his cool. after a few seconds passed by the barista sat down the drinks before striking up a conversation with the two men. once she left the air became thick with awkwardness.

though adam didn't feel it, but the doctor sure could. eye contact was held for a couple seconds too long, the doctor tried to brush it off as nothing. but he could've sworn adam was also blushing. his cheeks were stained a rosy red while dusted with a fine pink coat. the doctor smiled at this realization that it wasn't just him.

it reminded him of the old days before the bathroom, when they would meet up. he knew adam wasn't able to remember them, but lawrence couldn't seem to forget. the strong feelings they shared continued to come back to him, even when he knew they would never again be reciprocated.

the time spent together was lost in adams' memories, however the doctor could make up for the lost time by adding to them. maybe it was for the best that his memories were stolen from him, now they could make new ones.

but the weight of this secret heavily weighed him down. since these unforgiving feelings wouldn't let him forget what they once were. he still has feelings for him, and as painful as they were, they weren't going away anytime soon.
