I woke up on the cold ground, a slight pressure in my head making everything slightly blurry. After shifting slightly, an ache echoed out across my body from each limb.

"Oh good. You're awake." The voice gurgled from the opposite end of the room. In the haze I had a hard time even recognizing the voice as human.

As my eyes adjusted I remembered the moment before I blacked out. A deep panic set within me. Where was I? Where and why? Why me? My breathing became shallow and tears started to form at the corner of my eyes in panic.

"Vaila..." The voice gurgled again and my eyes tried to focus on the figure that lurked in the shadows ahead of me. But the world shifted again. The shadow... and my father... they were the same person. One entity. One nightmare.

I wanted to scream. To cry. To run. To move. To fight. But I couldn't.

"Vaila... come here." He called, it's rumbling blending with the angry voice I had grown so used to.

I couldn't move. I was trapped again. Glued to the floor, waiting to get stepped on.

"...Connor..." Not a second after he said the strange name did I feel a strong grip around my shoulders that dragged me closer to the shadows. I couldn't see who held me, but I thought I caught a familiar glimpse of stark white hair.

The firm grip ultimately steadied me not 1 foot away from him. Regardless of the distance the shadow still cloaked him, masking his features save what looked like a nicely pressed suit. But I could see those cold and angry eyes boring into me. The same eyes. Or were they white and blank?

I shut my eyes in terror.

I felt a cold and clammy hand wrap itself around my chin.

"You didn't think I'd just let you go did you?"

I stifled a whimper.

He squeezed tighter, and I could feel the pain of a bruise forming.

"You belong to me girl. Your father sold you to me..." A deep shiver went through me as he leaned his face next to mine to whisper in my ear. "Just like he sold your mother."

My eyes shot open.

Before I could react I felt a lurch as he tossed me back against the ground. I coughed as the air left my lungs.

To my surprise... he started coughing too. I heard as he gurgled and lurched.

Slowly I lifted my head off the floor, trying to reach a sitting position.

His coughing fit slowly came to a halt and he rasped angrily at me.

"...You... have a choice...."

I looked at him, his face still one of deeply ingrained memories.

"....Use your quirk... for me..."

He breathed raggedly.

"Or die as horribly, and painfully... as your mother."

I couldn't breathe. It felt as if my throat was constricting itself, slowly killing me before he would have the chance to.

"I'll let you think it over..." The man shifted slightly, adjusting his eyesight to the man that was now beside me. "You know what to do Connor."

I looked up to face the man named Connor, and I was met with the same blue eyes and stark white hair that had brought me here in the first place. I couldn't make sense of it, as that same sadness dwelled in his eyes. Why?

He leaned down to me, gently grabbing my arm. Before lifting me off the ground, I almost heard him whisper softly. "I'm sorry."

Slowly recollection dawned on me. It wasn't the first time he had apologized to me. He said it over and over again all those times in the chair. Why? If you were so sorry why did you do this? Why?

He lead me down hallways and through corridors ultimately leaving me in a dark room with a simple ratty mattress spread across the corner. The only light that came from the room was low fluorescence from the hallway. I watched the light get thinner and thinner as he slowly closed the door behind him.

Before the light was completely gone, I saw him hesitate.

"Just give him what he wants kid..." He paused slightly, as if caught in a bad memory. "It'll be easier."

And with that the light faded from the room and I was once again trapped in darkness. I hugged my knees close to my chest, praying and wishing that this was a dream. A nightmare. Please let me wake back up in the hospital with Dr. Marshal. With Priority waiting in a plastic chair with violets. With Tiva cooking, waiting for me to get home. Please.

But no matter how much I wished for that I knew it wouldn't be true. This was my destiny. Because after all... there are some people that just weren't meant to be saved.
