"Did you go through all of them?" One asks.

Five and Eight nod. "Every single one, sir."

"And none of them seem out of the ordinary?"

Seven smirks. "Well, these aren't exactly hard questions."

One shoots him a glare.

"There is one," Four says. "For the address she put '123 Northwest Jk Lane, Washington Street, 11824'."

Two laughs. "That has to be fake. Jk Lane?"

"Give me the paper," One orders.

Four hands him the paper. He notices Five flinch from the side of the room. But he doesn't bother saying anything.

Clarissa Stevens.

There's that name again. One knows for a fact that she lied about everything. Except her name, of course. They research these kids. Every single one of them. None of the answers she put in were real.

He looks up, a smile stretched across his face. "We need to have a little talk with her then."

"What are you thinking?" Five asks. "Why are you smiling?"

One just shrugs. "Well, she lied. And consequences do come for those who lie, do they not?"

Five narrows her eyes. "What are you thinking, One?"

The meeting goes on for a few more minutes.

Then Five and One are left by themselves.

"Don't hurt this girl, Wade," she pleads. "I'm begging you. I don't want to become a criminal because of some fear you developed."

He glares at her. "You don't get a say in what you do. You gave up whatever dream you had when you decided you wanted to marry me."

Her eyes start to mist over.

It wasn't the first they'd had that conversation. It never ended well.

"I don't care what you do," she says, her voice breaking. "Just don't hurt the girl. That little stunt you pulled the other day, where you had your brother follow her? That wasn't funny. Especially after he poisoned that innocent boy. I'm just---"

The hand connected with her face before she even had a chance to flinch.

Five's head snaps to the left and she falls over.

One stares at her for a while before holding out his hand. "Stand up."

She looks up at him before swatting his hand away. "I don't need your pity," she says, holding her right cheek. "You do what you want. But I want no part in it."

One helps her up. "I had to get some sense in you. Because we're a team. Whether you want us to be or not. You do what I say."

Five stays silent.

After a while, he nods. "Let's go fix that cheek of yours."
