MIDNIGHT | Peeta Mallark | A Hunger Games Short story

In the hanging tree.

I rush out of the train. As soon as my feet touch the ground I'm aware of everything about district 11 again.

I take in the fields and the houses that everyone I know lives in. This is home.

I look ahead to my house and I see my Mother standing with Theo in her arms.

I watch as they spot me and Theo quickly wiggles his way out of her hold and sprints to me.

I quickly meet him half way as I grab onto him like my life depends on it.

The world wouldn't keep spinning if Theo wasn't around.

I pull back to look at his face, quickly peppering him with kisses as he squirms.

"I missed you so much" I say, standing up just as Mum reaches me.

She hugs me as tight as possible as Theo still clings to my feet.

Suddenly I hear a cough from behind me.

"Oh" I say as Effie waves her arms "mum this is Effie and my stylist" I say as my Mum politely nods at them both

I watch as he exits the train

"Mum... I want you to meet Peeta" I say as we make our way over to the vehicle.

"Hi" he says before my mum brings him into a massive hug

"Thank you for keeping her safe" she whispers loudly to him as I blush and he steps back to stand by me.

"Are you two?-" she says

"I'm Peeta... her boyfriend I hope" he says as he looks at me

I smile as I nod with a blush

Mum smiles and hugs him one last time

"Come in, there's stew for dinner" she calls as she picks Theo up and begins to walk back to the old house we will soon move out of.

I hold Peeta's hand as we follow after her.

"Come on, there's plenty for all of us" I say to Effie and the others as they follow after smiling.
