As they walked back, Y/n couldn't help but think about what he did earlier without explanation. He flushed at the thought of putting his tear stained, snotty face on Azrael's blazer when he broke down. He hated breaking down like that but there wasn't much he could do about it now.

I should apologise but I don't know how too word it... his thoughts spoke for him.

"Hey... uh- A-Azrael?" Y/n looked at the tall guy walking next to him, hoping his flushed face wasn't too noticeable, "I-I'm sorry about earlier- Marie and Sally were t-telling me stuff I didn't w-want to hear and they ended up... you know- shouting. It scared me..." he trailed off when he saw Azrael staring down at him with a blank expression.

"Why are you saying sorry?" He asked. Y/n looked at him in confusion, "Why? You don't need to apologise. You've not done anything wrong. I have no idea what they were shouting at you about but it obviously upset you, so I comforted you."

Y/n looked down at the ground, kicking a small pebble lying on the ground, "I know... they were-" he cut off and sighed, shutting his eyes and counting to ten.

"They were what?"

"Don't worry about it Azrael..."

"What were they saying?" His voice was louder, more aggressive.

Y/n looked up at him, startled and stopped walking, "they- They were saying horrible things about you! Okay?!" He shouted, his voice cracking as his voice wavered, "I-I didn't want to hear it! So I-I told them you w-weren't responsible f-for that girl going missing! That y-you're a nice person!" His chest was heaving, tears once again threatening to fall, "t-they told me not to hang around w-with you and I t-told them I like hang-hanging around with y-ou! That y-you've been nice to me a-and h-helped me settle into s-school!" His breathing was rapid, a few stray tears falling down his face as he clenched and unclenched his fists.Azrael glanced at him, turning around to face him before striding over the few short steps.

He placed his hands on Y/n's shoulders, shit- I've upset him- What? Azrael's lips were slightly turned upwards into a small smile, a soft yet unreadable expression on his face.

"It's true I was with Zara before she went missing," he said, dark blue eyes meeting (e/c) ones, "we were walking to the closest store, the one just around the corner from here. We then walked towards the park and split paths there. After that I went to my part time job at the cafe near there." He explained, breaking eye contact with Y/n, "I went to my next door neighbours house to feed their pigs since they can't do it anymore, then went home. It's what I told the police. The text she sent to Marie was while we were together. Zara sent it as a joke to scare her, we didn't expect her to vanish into thin air... I think she's dead." Something about the way Azrael said it made Y/n shiver. He didn't seem to care that his friend went missing and was presumed dead. He didn't seem to hold any sort of empathy or even any emotion revolving around the girl. He seemed almost... angry? Annoyed by Y/n bringing her up, despite the gentle and calm face. His voice sounded uptight and irritated, as if Zara was a burden he wanted to rid from his mind forever.

"Sorry," Y/n placed a hand on Azrael's shoulder, "I won't bring her up again. It sounds like it upsets you."

Y/n walked up the small set of steps of his house, Azrael following to the bottom of them. The brunette had been quiet for the rest of the walk back, as if he were deeply disturbed by what Y/n had said Marie and Sally had said.

"You can come in if you want, I'm not feeling so sick now. My mother won't mind, she'll be back around six," Y/n offered, his head tilting to the side. "I'm sure she won't mind if you stay over for a little- or even for the night, she doesn't care... but if you need to get home because of your parents I don't mind-" he quickly shut up, seeing amusement all over Azrael's face. Y/n didn't know why he was rambling or why he wanted Azrael to stay over for the night but he did. Maybe it was because Azrael was the first friend he made at school or maybe because he actually listened to him, he didn't know.
