Chapter 7-Everything I Never Told YouLuna and Kiba pull up into the home. When they both walked into the door, both of her parents jumped up from their seats at the table.
"Luna! We were so worried." Keith says but stops when he sees Kiba following behind her. "Hey dad," Luna waved and briefly acknowledged her mother who was coming towards them. "Luna, who is this man?"
"This is Kiba," she gestures from him to her parents. "And these are my parents. He saved me from being attacked."
"Great Spirit!" Alana gasped and Keith widened his eyes in shock. "Are you alright?" He grabbed her shoulders, looking her over with worried eyes.
"Yeah I'm alright. I probably would have been worse off if not for Kiba."Keith looks over at the young man, who was observing them quietly. "Thank you young man for saving my daughter." He holds out his hand towards Kiba, who takes it. "Not a problem. I'm sure anyone would have helped."
Luna noticed that Alana was staring at at Kiba when he looked at her. She looked... nervous? Scared? The atmosphere in Luna's home is heavy with anticipation as Luna, Kiba, Alana, and Keith gather. As they begin to lecture her about safety and being responsible, Luna's determination to unearth the truth resonates in the air.
"Mom, Dad, there's something I need to know." She cuts them off and both parents are stunned into silence. Luna takes a deep breath and lets it out. "There's something you've been keeping from me. I need you to tell me what's going on."
Alana's eyes glisten with emotion, her gaze turning to Keith before he nods in agreement. They understand that the time for secrets has come to an end. Keith gestures towards both of them. "Come on you. You're gonna want to sit down for this."
They all headed towards the living room. Keith and Alana sitting on the love seat near the fireplace and Luna and Kiba sitting on the couch across them which was divided by the coffee table. Alana exhales softly, closing her eyes and opening them. "Luna, you deserve to know the truth. And we're sorry for keeping it from you for so long."
Keith places a hand on hers. She looks up at him, giving him a small smile, giving his hand a quick squeeze before she takes a deep breath, her voice carrying the weight of years of hidden truths.
"Let me tell a story that was passed on through my people. Long ago, there was a Flower Maiden who possessed the ability to open the gate to Paradise. Created by the Nobles, using alchemy and magic, they were going to use her to open Paradise for themselves. But in order for her to do so, she needed the blood of the chosen wolf to do that. She escaped the Nobles when she sensed the chosen wolf-a white wolf," she looked at Kiba when she said this, " nearby and traveled with him their companions to find Paradise for themselves."
"There was...much death during this journey and both sides nearly killed each other. In the end, she sacrificed herself to protect the one she cared about, taking the corrupted black wolf with her. But before she did, she split pieces of her essence among her seeds."
Luna's eyes widen as the tale unfolds, her heart racing with the realization that her existence carries a legacy that predates her own birth.
" Essence... of the Flower Maiden?" Luna whispered. She was slowly shaking her head in disbelief. Alana nods and continues, her voice tinged with both sorrow and determination.
" I am descended from a tribe of shamans. There have been versions of this story passed down for generations. We believed that one day she would come back and bring Paradise to those who protected her children."
"My parents were herbalists; they traveled to many places to learn more about the lunar flower and what it meant to different people. They were convinced that wolves were wearing human skin to hide from those that wished them harm and to protect the secret of the flowers.
"But one pack gave them access to this knowledge and my parents agreed to work with them. They were on the cusp of recreating these flowers until my village was attacked and nearly destroyed." Alana pauses, blinking her eyes rapidly as Keith rubbed the small of her back.
"My parents were killed and their work stolen. Thankfully I still had the basics of their research and was later invited to Darcy Industries as the head scientist on the lunar flower research." She looks up at Keith again. "Your father was an investigative journalist that I met during my time there."
Keith smiles back as she continues. "He was interviewing me about the research that we were doing in bringing the legendary lunar flower that hasn't been seen in centuries. I believed we were doing a good thing." Alana's expression falls as Keith's expression darkens as he speaks of their past.
" But Darcy wasn't interested in the essence for noble reasons. He charmed his way into our lives, manipulating Alana's trust. When we discovered that he was the one behind the murder of her parents and that project was based on their stolen research, we chose to bring it to justice." Kiba gasped as Luna sucked in a breath, a hand flying to her mouth. "We also discovered," Alana interjects, "that he was trying to create his own hanabito-his own Flower Maiden in hopes of opening Paradise for himself."
Her lips were trembling as she uttered the last part. "He tried to eliminate us when we found out the truth." Luna's heart clenches as she pieces together the puzzle. The danger that her parents faced was a direct result of their pursuit of the essence.
"Mom..." She wanted to reach out and hug her. Her heart swelled with so much pain she could barely breathe. Alana took a moment before she spoke again.
"We tried to take the research and the essences but something happened. One of the essences..."
Alana choked out, tears running down her face as Keith comforted his wife.Luna finishes what her mother could not. " And then, the essences fused with you, Mom?" With tears in Alana's eyes, her voice quivering with a mixture of regret and love.
She nodded. " Yes, Luna. The essence fused with me, and it manifested as you. You're the result of the flower maiden's sacrifice, a beacon of hope and power."
Luna's emotions surge, a whirlwind of astonishment, and the realization that her very existence holds a purpose beyond herself.
"I carry the essence?" Luna places her hands on the sides of her head. She looks back up at her parents. "Is that why I have these dreams? Is it linked to her, the Flower Maiden and her wolves?"
" Yes, Luna. You are a direct descendant of the Flower Maiden." Keith looks over at Kiba. "And it's looking like you might be the chosen wolf."
Kiba startled in his seat. "How do you..?"
"I knew it was you when we first saw you in the alleyway," Alana chimes in. "The legends also say that the wolves used some sort of illusion to trick humans into seeing them as humans rather than wolves. The Fang pack is mostly made up of white werewolves."Kiba stood abruptly. "The Fang?" Kiba let out a pained voice. "You knew them?"
Alana starts to nod but then stops. "Oh Spirits."
Kiba stalks away , walking out the sliding door that leads to the backyard. Luna looks at her mother and father. "What's going on?""It would seem," Keith muses, "that your friend needs some space." He looks back at Luna, his eyes serious.
"And now, with danger resurfacing, it's imperative that we protect you."
Luna's gaze shifts to where Kiba left, their connection now illuminated by the truth. The enigmatic wolf, the man she met in the rain, and her own existence—all threads woven into a tapestry that spans generations.
