Devon Lee hated the deathly silent atmosphere that was imbedded into the prison system. It was almost too silence for her liking. This pure silence always made her want to crawl out of her skin.

She thought it was ironic that she hates the silence that she was suddenly gifted as if it was a year ago, then she'd be dying for it. When you come from a community that always hustling and bustling, the lack of noise felt like a gods send.

But despite, all of the annoyance she used to held for the loud environment, she now finds herself longing to go back to it.

She misses having to do homework with headphones on because the hallways were filled with childish screaming. Or getting abruptly woken up in the nights due to her brother slamming the cabinets shut. It's the little odd things like that, which make her long for a taste of her old life.

The girl didn't like this constant type of silent. It made her feel like she was trapped in her own bubble, far away from the vibrant outside world. No sound could penetrate this thick seal, no matter how hard she tried to break it.

It felt like there was absolutely no way for her to escape this empty void. She felt like she was stuck in one place with nowhere to go. As if her feet were super glued to the floor and the only thing she could do was watch herself sink into the quicksand, no matter how much she wanted to run away.

The silence was practically driving her insane and she had only been locked up in this small beige room for a few months, which was considerably less time than the other delinquents.

Most of the time, to keep her sanity in check, she often resorted to playing wall ball with herself. Devon couldn't explain it but somehow the sound of her rubber ball harshly slapping against the concrete wall, made her feel somewhat content.

Maybe because it helps to fill the void and not make her feel like she was trapped in the deathly silence.

"Do you mind? I'm trying to study." The girl begrudgingly halted her action with an eye roll.

"Study for what?" Devon pondered in confusion. "We finished our stupid mandatory earth skills classes."

Her cell mate, a girl by the name of Sadie Vesper, poked her head up from her book to stare at her. "I need to do something decent in this shit hole." She pointed out.
